A simple incident in an Ashram – A lesson

UP, MP, Uttaranchal & many other states in the North have very old Ashrams, established long long ago, though they do not propogate and market themselves to attract revenues or popularity like other modern day large Ashrams.

They work silently and go about their jobs quietly.

In one such Ashram, one fine morning, the Water Motor pump stopped functioning. Naturally, there was commotion as the inmates of the Ashram needed water to carry out every function.

The Ashram staff called plumbers. One plumber came immediately and inspected the Pump and said, “Air got blocked in one of the pipes. Let us open all taps and locate which tap does not function properly.” The plumber did all that he could. But the pump did not start.

Another plumber came after a while and inspected the whole thing and said, “The Pump is of very low HP and hence needs replacement.”.

Immediately a new pump was purchased and fitted. Still it did not function.

A 3rd Plumber came and said, “The fault is not in the pump but in the main pipe drawing water from the water tank.”

A new pipe line was laid afresh. All old pipe lines were disconnected.

The pump started working but not as efficiently as before and water was not going up fast. As a result, even when the pump worked for more than two hours, very little water could be pumped up.

The Ashram works got delayed as a result and the Guru checked up why there was delay in the Ashram routine works. The whole story was explained to him. He smiled. The inmates did not understand the Guru’s calm posture. The Guru went to the pump area and pointed to a pipe-joint near the ground that was leaking water heavily.

Everyone realised that the small joint was the cause of the problem. Another plumber came and fixed a new joint in no time and the pump started working efficiently.

The Guru said, ” Look. You all did your best to set right the problem but did not succeed. You are all young and thought that you can address the complaint. You did not inform me first. After you failed, you informed. I knew the exact problem, as, it occurred similarly a few decades ago. I had the previous experience and hence could locate it.

Remember, when you encoutner a problem, pray to God first and go about your work. God lets you know easier solutions as He has infinite experiences of our problems.

Scientists led by an Indian origin have linked perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) – chemical found in things such as nonstick cookware and packaged foods like microwave popcorn – to cardiovascular disease.

West Virginia University (WVU) School of Public Health, Morgantown, researchers looked at the health data of 1,200 Americans and compared their PFOA serum levels with the heart disease incidence.

The results of the study showed that greater the PFOA amounts in the bloodstream, the greater is the cardiovascular disease risk -regardless of factors like age, race, smoking, BMI, diabetes, and even hypertension, Fox News reported.

Lead study author Dr. Anoop Shankar , chair of the department of epidemiology in the WVU School of Public Health, said that they can’t yet be certain that PFOA causes heart disease, but suggested that the two could be related in another way, like people suffering from heart disease tending to retain more PFOA in their blood.

According to the FDA, many popcorn bags contain high levels of PFOAs.

Mouse Trap

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package… “What food might this contain?” The mouse wondered – he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.
Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning. “There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!”

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, “Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it.”

The mouse turned to the goat and told him, “There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!” The goat sympathized, but said, “I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it. “

The mouse turned to the cow and said, “There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!” The cow said, “Wow, Mr. Mouse. I’m sorry for you, but it’s no skin off my nose. But wish you well; be assured you are in my prayers “

So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer’s mousetrap– alone.

That very night a sound was heard throughout the house — like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey. The farmer’s wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmer’s wife.
The farmer rushed her to the hospital and she returned home with a fever. Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup’s main ingredient. But his wife’s sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the goat. The farmer’s wife did not get well; she died.
So many people came for her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them. The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in
the wall with great sadness.

So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn’t concern you, Remember that when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk. We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another because directly or indirectly we might have to suffer!!!
