Tirupur youngster’s invention enters India Book of Records http://chennaionline.com/City360/People/20124012114021/Tirupur-youngsters-invention-enters-India-Book-of-Records.col Eco Free Cab, an invention of Mr. Sivaraj Muthuraman has entered the India Book of Records. Sivaraj Muthuraman, a 26yr old Post Graduate based out of Tirupur,  hailing from an industrial background is basically a concept maker. He is also the proud founder and chairman of Eco Free Cab which is operating in Ireland, Canada & China, and now stepping into India. His invention, an Eco Free Cab has won him recognition in the “India Book of Records” under Science and Technology category. It is a modified cycle rickshaw and aims to encourage people to use Go Green vehicles.                           This Eco Free Cab is a unique 3 seater vehicle which can run with solar energy, battery and by pedaling with no emission of polluted air unlike other cars which run on fuel. Its running distance per charge is 150km and it can run at a maximum speed of 45 km/h.  Presenting the certificate Mr. Vivek Raja, Adjudicator, India Book of Records stated that, “The world of today is desperately trying to evade the ongoing struggle with the “Greenhouse effect”.  What this world really requires is a revolution which can reduce pollution and create a toxic free environment for the next generation. If we speak about pollution, then the burning fuel from the automobiles is the major cause of it. If we can take control of at least this pollution creator, then we can reduce the level of daily pollution by 5% that means 60% a year.  When more and more countries around the world are turning their heads towards green vehicles, India is not lagging behind. We are glad to acknowledge this brilliant and a noble initiative which has been taken by Mr. Sivaraj, a true citizen of India”.  Sivaraj Muthuraman says,” This award gives me more confident to implement my product soon and encourages to come-up with more concepts. I am awaiting some support to launch these cabs in India starting from Chennai. I would like to launch these Go Green vehicles to provide free of cost services to the disabled, school and university students and other people travelling a distance of upto 2 kms. I would be grateful if I get necessary support to launch this initiative in the city”.

Raman – The Great Indian Physicist Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, FRS (7 November 1888 – 21 November 1970) was an Indian physicist. He was the recipient of the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1930 for the discovery that when light traverses a transparent material, some of the light that is deflected changes in wavelength. This phenomenon is now called Raman scattering and is the result of the Raman effect    The original picture of Jhansi Rani Laxmi Bai. This picture has been taken by German photographer Hoffman 160 years ago This was how the Taj Mahal was protected from bomber jets in 1942 during world war. It was covered with huge scaffold, to make it look like a stockpile of bamboo and misguide bombers. The covering is still incomplete in this photo. The whole of Taj Mahal was covered but this picture shows only the main dome covered. The govt. didn’t allow any photographers later to shoot the final scaffold cover. During the India-Pakistan war in 1971, it was protected by covering it with a green cloth and making it almost invisible i.e. camouflaged within the greenery around it. Even in 2001, after the Sep 11 attack, Archaeological Survey of India took up the precautionary measure to cover it with cloth and it took them more than 20 days to do that!!

“District collector, U. Sagayam of Madurai, Tamil Nadu – By refusing to take bribes, the Madurai collector has earned 18 transfers in 20 years, a modest house and bank balance and lots of respect”

Three years ago, as district collector of Namakkal, Tamil Nadu, U. Sagayam voluntarily declared his assets: a bank balance of Rs 7,172 and a house in Madurai worth Rs 9 lakh. Once, when his baby daughter, Yalini, who had breathing problems, was suddenly taken ill, he did not have the Rs 5,000 needed for admitting her to a private hospital. At that time he was deputy commissioner (excise) in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, and there were 650 liquor licences to be given out. The going bribe for each was rumoured to be Rs 10,000.

(He needs a special mention here because the assets of an IAS officer-couple in Madhya Pradesh were valued at Rs 360 crore. They had 25 flats in three cities)

‘Reject bribes, hold your head high’, says a board hanging above Sagayam’s chair in his modest office. That’s the code he lives by, even if politicians are incensed they cannot bend him their way—he’s been transferred 18 times in the last 20 years—and has made enemies of both superiors and subordinates. “I know I sit under a dangerous slogan and probably alienate people,” he says. “But I have been the same Sagayam from Day 1. Standing up against corruption is not for a season. Nor is it a fad. It’s forever”, he says.

On a hot summer afternoon, on Madurai’s busy main road, the district collector, U. Sagayam, saw a young man talking on a cellphone while riding a motorbike. He asked his driver to wave the man down, got down from his car and meted out instant punishment: plant 10 saplings within 24 hours. Somewhat unconventional justice, some might say. But that’s how Sagayam works.

He also took on a mighty soft-drink mnc when a consumer showed him a bottle with dirt floating in it. He sealed the bottling unit and banned the sale of the soft drink in the city. In Chennai, he locked horns with a restaurant chain and recovered four acres valued at some Rs 200 crore.

Sagayam’s masters degrees in social work and law come in useful in his role as an administrator. He knows the rulebooks in detail and is not afraid of using them, however powerful the opponent. No wonder then that Sagayam’s career is marked with the scars of countless battles.

Sagayam’s wife Vimala has stood by him all these years but she was rattled by some of the threats during the elections. “He always says if you are right, nobody can hurt you,” she says. “But sometimes it becomes difficult.”

Sagayam says he learnt honesty on his mother’s knees.
