EXPERIENCING STORMS

In the past several months, powerful storms have wreaked havoc in many places, torrential rains in central Europe and parts of China, tornadoes in Australia, Montana and the American Midwest, and strong thunderstorms across the northeast. Now, as Tropical Storm Bonnie makes landfall in Florida and heads into the Gulf of Mexico, oil cleanup is being suspended, and the final “kill” operation is delayed for at least one more week. These storms have been destructive and deadly, but beautiful and awe-inspiring at the same time. Collected here are a handful of photographs of stormy skies, lightning strikes and storm damage from the past several months.

Storms

EXPERIENCING STORMS
Dinesh Vora

Today, animals of all kinds can be considered dangerous. Some on this list have been known to kill a lot of people. Some of them are beautiful animals. However, looks can kill. All animals listed here are deadly, and some of them were only found to be so in the last decade. You’re going to be stunned by what some of these animals can do.
1. Boomslang

Fun & Info @ Keralites.net

The Boomslang is a snake that is primarily found in the South African area, but has been known to make its rounds throughout the African continent. It is one of the deadliest snakes in the world for a couple of reasons.
As you can see from the pic above, the fangs on this guy are big, and this is uncommon among the Boomslang’s species. The eyes are also interesting. In fact, they have better eyesight than most snakes. Some say its eyesight is as good as a normal human being.
As most people know, snakes don’t typically have the best eyesight. The Boomslang breaks that trend in a major way. They have been known to pick birds right out of the air due to their tremendous sight.
A human has no chance of escaping a bite if the Boomslang chooses to attack them. They usually don’t go after humans, but will when threatened. Many of them are green and brown, so they blend in well with the wooded environment in which they thrive.
Boomslangs contain a Hemotoxin venom that, when injected, can kill within hours. A person will literally bleed from the inside out. You will bleed from every hole in the body. You’ll even bleed from the ears, eyes, and penis/vagina.
The deadliest part of the whole thing is that the only place in South Africa that has the Antivenom is Johannesburg. So, if you’re out in the bush when you get attacked, you may not make it to the hospital in time. Obviously, the smaller you are, the quicker it’ll kill.
If you don’t get treatment quickly, you’ll start to wish you did, so don’t play around with this. The average time for the poison to kill is a mere two hours. However, the longer you wait, the greater the risk for long term damage.
2. Cone Snail

Fun & Info @ Keralites.net

The Cone Snail is one of those animals that no one thinks about, but it is as deadly as it gets. Usually, one may not even realize they are handling a Cone Snail because the first thing you see is their beautiful shell. The snail underneath is an afterthought, but a deadly one.
Shell collectors end up picking one up and the snail’s harpoon will stick into the person. What happens next depends on the Cone Snail. Each one has a different poison. The deadly ones have a Neurotoxin that will temporarily paralyze you. Then your body will start to shut down. You will also develop severe respiratory problems. This could be the worst part of it.
The Cone Snail has something called a Conotoxin.
There is no cure for what the Cone Snail puts in your system. Sometimes full blood transfusions are necessary to get rid of the poison.
The way to survive the attack initially, before help arrives, is to make sure you alert someone as quickly as possible by calling 911. You should also make sure that CPR is performed. If CPR is administered, chances are there will be enough time to save the person’s life. If not, they risk dying.
3. Hippopotamus

Fun & Info @ Keralites.net

The Hippo is portrayed in pop culture as a slow, dim-witted animal. They have also been dubbed fun loving and peaceful.
While they are usually peaceful creatures, these 9,000 pound animals are also very territorial. They kill more humans on average each year than all African animals combined. This is a massive statistic when you think about it.
This animal has the potential to kill at any time, and people should take massive notice. The tour guides in the area know the signs of a Hippo that is miffed at them. They will give clues. However, novices won’t pick up on them, and those are the people that die.
They are territorial animals that simply want to be left alone and given their space. If you do neither, you will pay with your life. Hippos cannot swim, which is one interesting fact about them. But when they chase you, they will basically run underwater, and they can move around 5 mph. This can be faster than you think. They also don’t tire easy, so you better have good cardio to outswim one. When they get you, you will die. There is not even a doubt. It’s rare when the Hippo stops early. They make sure you’re dead so you don’t come back. This is why they are naturally deadly.
The best thing to do is watch the Hippo from a safe distance. In doing so, the Hippo won’t see you as an issue. The closer you get, the closer you are to death.

4. Poison Dart Frog

Fun & Info @ Keralites.net

The Poison Dart Frogs are known for their beautiful colors. The Dart Frogs are some of the most beautiful creatures you will ever see, and it’s a shame that they are so pretty. People would love to handle them, but should not without proper safety gear.
Dart Frogs have poisonous skin, which can be a big risk. Their secretions are also poisonous. This is how they keep themselves from becoming prey.
The Frog got its name for literal reasons. Tribes have used it to make poison darts/arrows for hundreds of years. It became a household usage, if you will, for tribes in the area.
It’s unique in the fact that its skin and secretion is untouchable. However, not all poison dart frogs will kill humans with their poison. Only three are that deadly.
Usually, poison dart frogs won’t kill you from a simple touch right away, but you can feel really sick. The poison will mostly cause sickness because it’s technically not going into the blood when you touch it, but it is going into the skin.
Your skin acts as a filter between the poison and blood. So obviously some does get in, but not to an extreme level like with an open cut. Some with minor poison won’t kill you even if it’s shot directly into your bloodstream. But again, you will get quite sick.
The Golden Dart Frog can kill with its version of poison through just about any touch. It happens to be the most poisonous Dart Frog in the world, though. It would be the one to not even bother looking at.
Zoos keep these little guys in their own special cages. If animal experts won’t touch them, neither should you. The color is beautiful, but that’s your best warning.

5. Yellow Bellied Sea Snake

Fun & Info @ Keralites.net

The Yellow Bellied Sea Snake is one of the most beautiful snakes in the world. However, it is as lethal as many. What makes this one stand out?
First of all, it’s normally found in the sea, which is different from most snakes. It hunts at all times of the day, so you’ll find it out and about a lot. They usually never attack humans unless you happen to get too close. Now, the coolest part of this snake is what it packs inside.
The poison is obviously lethal, but the way it can kill you is as horrible a way to go as possible. The venom is similar to that of Cobras, but more concentrated and more toxic. It’s said that one drop of their venom can kill three grown men.
The toxin basically attacks your system like all other poisonous snakes’ venom does. Yet, there is a twist. It attacks the respiratory system, and you can have an issue with paralysis. Worst of all, the venom attacks all the muscles, too. You can barely move, and you’re in a ton of pain, as well. You wish you were dead. This part of it does not kick in for about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on size. However, it’s one of the roughest ways to die imaginable. You will end up experiencing the aches and pains even with the antivenom in your system, no matter how quickly you get it in. It’s just your body’s way of responding to it.
CPR is essential to even be kept alive until you can get the antivenom injected. If you don’t, a person can possibly fade out not only from the pain and shock of it all, but from the issues caused with the lungs. CPR also assists the heart, so the added benefit of keeping the heart and lungs active long enough for help to arrive is essential to keeping someone alive.
Some people have mentioned, even after they were saved from the venom of a sea snake, that they had severe muscle aches. Often, the pain was horrific. People complained about all of this for months afterward, too. OUCH!

6. Blue-Ringed Octopus

Fun & Info @ Keralites.net

The Blue-Ringed Octopus is a gorgeous animal. The average sea diver that looks at these creatures is immediately attracted by the beauty. However, you’ll be in trouble if you don’t keep a safe distance.
I am not kidding when I say that the venom contains tetrodotoxin, 5-hydroxytryptamine, hyaluronidase, tyramine, histamine, tryptamine, octopamine, taurine, acetylcholine, and dopamine.
You may recognize some of these from medications, like Dopamine. But inside this animal, the effects of all these combined can be vicious. There is no antivenom for this animal, but humans can survive it. How so?
The only way is by instant CPR. You will develop paralysis within 5 minutes. So, that’s enough time to yell for help and tell someone to call 911. You can also tell them to deliver CPR. The average person dies from cardiac arrest or a lack of oxygen to the brain, causing suffocation. If CPR is performed immediately, you have a better chance.
You could also suffer permanent blindness or even permanent paralysis if help does not come soon.
As a rule, the most beautiful animals in the world are the ones you don’t want to mess with. The Blue-Ringed Octopus makes that statement exponentially true.

7. Hooded Pitohui

Fun & Info @ Keralites.net

One of the only poisonous birds in the animal kingdom, the Pitohui family of birds are, at times, lethal. The Hooded Pitohui typically gets the most press because it’s not only seen more often, but its attacks have been reported more than other birds.
Scientists call it “The Flying Venom.”
So, what poison does it use?
You read about the Poison Dart Frog earlier, and it’s really the same thing. The HP has the exact same effect, as its skin and feathers are the poisonous part of it. The most horrible aspect is that the venom found on these birds is the most harmful venom known to mankind. Yeah, just when you thought it was fine to go outside, right?
A study was done on a mouse by injecting some of the HP’s poison into it. Normally it takes a few minutes for poison to enter the animal, and then death will occur within a few minutes, on average. When they tested the HP venom, the mouse was dead within seconds, showing just how lethal it is.
Normally we won’t be affected by this animal. Similar to the Poison Dart Frog, the poison has to hit the bloodstream. If it does not, though, a few side effects can still happen, such as numbness (usually where the poison was), tingling, or sneezing.
Paralysis and death can occur if the bird delivers a good portion of poison. Usually, it’s rare that it gives out that much, though. Either way, it’s a good idea to be careful if you go to Papua, New Guinea, the native area of this bird.

8. Death Stalker Scorpion

Fun & Info @ Keralites.net

The Death Stalker Scorpion is kind of a fun name, right? It seems pretty nice.
If you’re like the rest of the world and see that name, it sends instant fear. You’d be right to fear it, too. This creature isn’t one to mess with, and it has a severe temper problem.
Many feel that this scorpion was the possible inspiration for the Scorpion character in Mortal Kombat. Many think it looks like a toy because of its beautiful yellow coloring. Therefore, it never really stands out as a big time threat to some children. This can result in a sting. The poison is lethal, as with many other scorpions. Here are same of the after effects of its sting.
Number one, their sting has been known to be incredibly painful. Many say it could be the worst of any sting or animal bite. Some have been known to go into shock as a result.
Also, the poison can cut off airways. It can kill you if the antivenom is not given soon. According to experts, it could take as little as a few hours. People have reported joint pain and severe headaches for a number of months after the sting.
You’ll usually find this animal in Israel, but it has been found in other areas, too. This particular scorpion loves the sand, so be extra careful there.

9. Puffer Fish

Fun & Info @ Keralites.net

Little is known about them, but the funny thing is that the Puffer Fish is more deadly after its death than during its life.
The fish is considered a delicacy in many parts of the world. However, if it is not prepared correctly by removing the poison, then one can actually die. Usually, the poison that it delivers can cause your airways to shut, which can obviously be an issue.
Its poisons are Saxitoxin and Tetrodotoxin, both of which can be lethal. Tetrodoxin alone can cause rapid heart rate, muscle paralysis, a decrease in blood pressure, numbness, and tingling. Often, the puffer fish’s symptoms can go away in a few hours or days, but medical treatment needs to be given soon.
During its life, the Puffer Fish is not really tough for humans to kill. But for other animals, it seems to carry a legend. Normally, even top tier predators like the shark stay away from it. Its barbs make it hard to fight and kill, and the fact that it expands can make the fish tough to eat. In the end, most animals just don’t want the hassle. The fact that most know it carries poison could also be something to think about. We can’t be the only smart species in the world, right?
All in all, this fish is not cool to mess with. Why people risk eating it is nuts. But hey, that’s one guy’s opinion, right?

People may be wondering why I saved this little guy for last. Wait until you read about the Assassin Caterpillar. It can be almost impossible to even see this creature because it blends into its natural habitat so well. Therefore, humans can encounter it randomly.
People have known about the creature for some time, but only recently have they known that it was massively poisonous. So far, in the last 20 years it has caused hundreds of deaths.
In just the last few years, there have been around 300 known envenomings, many resulting in death or long term hospitalization. When Brazilian scientists found out about the creature, they quickly prepared the antivenom.
It causes “disseminated intravascular coagulation,” which is a fancy way of saying that it makes you bleed and prevents clotting. The caterpillar will give you something called “bruised blood.” It’s just like being hit in the face or arm and getting a bruise. Your body will swell up due to the blood, among other things. You feel pain there for a while, you’re tender, etc. However, imagine this happening to your inner biological makeup, your blood in particular. Your bruised blood cannot function well, causing severe issues.
The poison will also attack human cells. More specifically, it attacks protein cells, causing them to leak and preventing them from clotting. This virtually kills off the platelets.
Due to all of this, you start to bleed internally, which spreads throughout your organs. It will eventually cause compression and eventually brain death. You’ll bleed externally, too, just to add more fun to the party.
All of this happens immediately when the poison enters your body. Normally, to do enough damage to kill it would have to sting you 20 to 100 times. The funny thing is that most people who run into these guys end up getting that without even realizing it.
Also, people do it in obvious ways such as stepping on it or putting your hand on a tree where it is hanging around.
Scientists were baffled as to what changed with this animal, since no well-known attacks happened for millennia. However, a large number of attacks have recently occurred in just the Brazilian area. Something has caused this caterpillar to realize its power, and it’s quickly becoming one of the deadliest animals in the world.
Several studies continue to be done on the ecosystem in Brazil where these venomous creatures are located. But so far, nothing major has been figured out, at least nothing that we didn’t already know.

Hole Under Door Lock

Wednesday, I approached my car from the passenger side to place
my computer bag in the front passenger seat.

As I reached to open the door I noticed there was a hole right
under my door handle.

My first thought was, “someone has shot the car !”

I began to think about it and inspect it a little closer and
the “light” slowly began to dawn.

I phoned a friend who owns a body shop and asked if he had any
vehicles with damage to the doors that looked like a bullet hole.

“Yes, I see it all the time. Thieves have a punch and place it
right under the door handle, knock a hole through, reach in and
unlock it, just as if they have a key. No alarms, broken glass,
or anything.”

I then placed a call to my insurance agent and explained it to
him. I was puzzled that they left my GPS and all other belongings.

Here is where it gets scary !

“Oh no, he said, they want the break-in to be so subtle that you
don’t even realize it. They look at your GPS to see where “home”
is. Or check your address from Insurance and Registration documants in your glove box.

Now they know what you drive, go to your home, and if your
vehicle isn’t there they assume you aren’t, and break into your home.”

He said they will even leave a purse or wallet and only take one
or two credit cards. By the time you realize there has been a
theft, they may have already had a couple of days or more to
use them.

(I didn’t realize my situation for two full days!)

They even give you the courtesy of re-locking your doors for you.

Periodically, walk around your car, especially after you park
in a shopping center or other large parking area.

Report thefts immediately….your bank w/missing check numbers,
your credit card agencies, police, and insurance companies, etc.

Below is picture of what the hole looks like.

Beware Hole under your car’s door lock

“Yes, I see it all the time. Thieves have a punch and place it

I then placed a call to my insurance agent and explained it to

Here is where it gets scary !

Stress Management

to dtea1976pusaro.

A psychologist walked around a room while teaching stress management to an audience. As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they’d be asked the “half… empty or half full” question. Instead, with a smile on her face, she inquired: “How heavy is this glass of water?”

Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz.

She replied, “The absolute weight doesn’t matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it’s not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my arm. If I hold it for a day, my arm will feel numb and paralyzed. In each case, the weight of the glass doesn’t change, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.” She continued, “The stresses and worries in life are like that glass of water. Think about them for a while and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and they begin to hurt. And if you think about them all day long, you will feel paralyzed – incapable of doing anything.”

It’s important to remember to let go of your stresses. As early in the evening as you can, put all your burdens down. Don’t carry them through the evening and into the night. Remember to put the glass down!

EATING FRESH FRUITS
This is very informative!

We all think eating fruit means just buying fruit, cutting it up and popping it into our mouths. It’s not that easy. It’s important to know how and when to eat fruit.

What’s the correct way to eat fruit?

IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUIT AFTER A MEAL!
FRUIT SHOULD BE EATEN ON ANEMPTY STOMACH.

Eating fruit like that plays a major role in detoxifying your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities..

FRUIT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD.

Let’s say you eat two slices of bread, then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it’s prevented from doing so.

In the meantime, the whole meal rots and ferments, and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach, and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil.

Eat your fruit on an emptystomach, or before your meal! You’ve heard people complain: Every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet, etc. This will not happen if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. Fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas. Hence, you bloat!

Graying hairbaldingnervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes – all of these will NOThappen if you eat fruit on an empty stomach.

There’s no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruit becomes alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruit, you have the Secret of Beauty, Longevity, Health, Energy, Happiness and normal weight.

When you need to drink fruit juice drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don’t drink juice that has been heated. Don’t eat cooked fruit; you don’t get the nutrients at all. You get only the taste… Cooking destroys all of the vitamins.

Eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit-fast to cleanse your body. Eat fruit and drink fruit juice for just 3 days, and you will be surprised when your friends say how radiant you look!

KIWI: Tiny but mighty, and a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange!

AN APPLE a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C, thereby helping to lower the risk of colon cancer, heart attack stroke.

STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.

EATING 2 – 4 ORANGES
oranges a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent dissolve kidney stones, and reduce the risk of colon cancer.

WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. Also a key source of lycopene, the cancer-fighting oxidant. Also found in watermelon: Vitamin C Potassium..

GUAVA PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene, good for your eyes..

Drinking Cold water after a meal = Cancer!

Can u believe this? For those who like to drink cold water, this applies to you. It’s nice to have a cold drink after a meal, however, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you’ve just consumed, which

slows digestion. Once this ‘sludge’ reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer.. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

A serious note about heart attacks
HEART ATTACK PROCEDURE

Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw. You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms. Sixty percent of people who have a heart attack while they’re asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Be careful, and be aware. The more we know, the better our chance to survive.

A cardiologist said if everyone who gets this mail sends it to 10 people, you can be sure that we’ll save at least one life.
It may even be your own life!

To:                 YOU
Date:             TODAY
From:           GOD
Subject:       YOURSELF
Reference:   LIFE

This is God. Today I will be handling All of your problems for you.  I do Not need your help.  So, have a nice day. I love you.

P.S.  And, remember… If life happens to deliver a situation to you that you cannot handle, do Not attempt to resolve it yourself!  Kindly put it in the SFGTD (something for God to do) box. I will get to it in MY TIME. All situations will be resolved, but in My time, not yours.

Once the matter is placed into the box, do not hold onto it by worrying about it.  Instead, focus on all the wonderful things that are present in your life now.

If you find yourself stuck in traffic, don’t despair. There are people in this world for whom driving is an unheard of privilege.

Should you have a bad day at work; think of the man who has been out of work for years.

Should you despair over a relationship gone bad; think of the person who has never known what it’s like to love and be loved in return.

Should you grieve the passing of another weekend; think of the woman in dire straits, working twelve hours a day, seven days a week to feed her children.

Should your car break down, leaving you miles away from assistance; think of the paraplegic who would love the opportunity to take that walk.

Should you notice a new gray hair in the mirror; think of the cancer patient in chemo who wishes she had hair to examine.

Should you find yourself at a loss and pondering what is life all about, asking what is my purpose? Be thankful. There are those who didn’t live long enough to get the opportunity.

Should you find yourself the victim of other people’s bitterness, ignorance, smallness or insecurities; remember, things could be worse. You could be one of them!

Should you decide to send this to a friend; Thank you. You may have touched their life in ways you will never know! Now, you have a nice day.

God

God
 has seen you struggling,
God
says it’s over.
A blessing is coming your
 way.

Pilgrimage to Paradise
Amarnath Yatra HelicopterIndia PilgrimageHoly PilgrimageHinduismReligious Pilgrimage
Naturally formed ice Shiva Lingam at the Amarnath Cave

June to August is time for the annual Amarnath Yatra — one of the most sacred and popular pilgrimages to the holy snow-clad cave shrine of Lord Shiva in the beautiful northern Indian state of Jammu Kashmir. Of all Hindu pilgrimages, Amarnath — situated at an altitude of 3,880 meters in the southern Kashmir Himalayas — is considered one of the holiest.

A visit or ‘darshan’ to the Holy Cave is generally open from mid June-early July (Ashad Purnima) to early August (Sharvan Purnima). The pilgrimage starts in June-July and draws thousands of pilgrims to the naturally-formed ice Shiva Lingam at the holy cave shrine. The ‘yatra’ or pilgrimage concludes in August, around the Raksha Bandhan festival.
Ensuring A Smooth Yatra
No pilgrim is allowed to proceed for the yatra without proper registration. A medical certification is a must before registering as a pilgrim. (See Details). While most of the Pahalgam road is open to vehicular traffic, the last 24 km to the holy cave have to be traveled on foot. Adequate measures are taken to make this tortuous trek easier.
Arrangements are made for proper supply of drinking water to the pilgrims enroute the holy cave. Power development department authorities ensure uninterrupted power supply from Sarbal to the holy cave, particularly during nights, and the departments of health, food and supplies, and cooperatives keep adequate stock of medicines, oxygen, food grains, firewood and other essentials for the convenience of the pilgrims.
The Charm of the Himalayas
In the Hindu mythology, there is a strong connection between the sublime Himalayan summits and Lord Shiva. Kalidasa, the greatest of the Sanskrit poets described the Himalayas as “the laughter of Shiva.” Lord Krishna said in the Bhagavad Gita, “Of the mountains, I am the Himalayas.” And Swami Vivekananda wittily said that India has so many gods and goddesses because it’s so close to the Himalayas — the abode of the gods.
An Icy Idol
The cave shrine of Amarnath can be accessed only during these rainy months of July and August, when inside the cave, a pure white ice-mound is formed, and water trickles down in a slow mysterious rhythm from the top of the cave on top of it. It piles up to take the shape of a ‘lingam’, the phallus symbol representing Lord Shiva, which begins to rise undiscernibly to acquire a full shape on the full moon night. It is believed that water from the Ramkund Lake situated above the cave, falls drop by drop on the holy Shiva Lingam.
Legend Has It
Legend has it that here on a Shravan day, Lord Shiva narrated ‘Amar Katha’ — the secrets of the cosmos — to his consort Goddess Parvati, the beautiful daughter of the Himalayas. As Parvati fell asleep during the discourse, two pigeons heard Lord Shiva’s story and attained immortality. Since then the holy place came to be known as Amarnath, and every year on the full moon day of Shravan, a pair of pigeons is seen inside the cave.
Truly a Pilgrim’s Paradise
The Amarnath Yatra, they say, leaves a profound impact of spiritual exaltation on the minds of the pilgrims, who stride through an exceedingly enchanting and enthralling route “upward” to meet the shining glory and greatness of God. Swami Vivekananda recounting his Amarnath experience said, “I have never been to anything so beautiful, so inspiring.”

EATING FRESH FRUIT

LIFE

To:                 YOU
Date:             TODAY

31 Delicious High-Fiber SnacksPhoto by Perry Santanachote
It helps keep things moving smoothly (you know what we mean), it can lower our risk for diabetes and heart disease, and it keeps us fuller, longer. What is this magic stuff?  Dietary fiber! It’s essential to our diets, plus a high fiber nibble can buy us time before the next meal hits the kitchen table. Here are 31 of our favorite fiber-packed snacks — one for every day of the month. We opted for snacks with at least five grams of fiber (20 percent of the daily recommended value) to tide you over. Instead of turning to chalky store-bought high-fiber bars, try out some of these tastier choices.
1. Orange Spinach Smoothie
This tasty treat goes down easy while sneaking in tons of fruits and veggies. Toss1 large orange (peeled and separated), ½ a large banana1 handful of strawberries2 cups of spinach1/3 cup of plain Greek yogurt, and 1 cup of ice into a blender. Store any leftovers in the freezer for tomorrow (pro tip: Pour the leftovers in ice cube trays for easier blending).
2. Raspberry Cream Cheese Toast
Toast 1 slice of whole-grain bread, spread with 1 to 2 tablespoons of low-fat cream cheese, and top with ½ cup of raspberries (1 cup of raspberries haseight grams of fiber, so feel free to add a few extra, or snack on another handful while making the toast).
3. Mediterranean Artichokes
Strain 1 6-ounce jar of artichokes to remove all liquid. Snack on them as-is, or get fancy by topping with 1 tablespoon of feta, a squeeze of lemon juice, a little olive oil, and some cracked pepper. This six-ounce (or ¾ cup) serving of the hearts (the center portion of an artichoke) has more than seven grams of fiber. Plus, they’re a rich source of vitamin C. (We won’t tell anyone if you stick a fork in the jar.)
4. Enlightened Bars
These healthier ice cream bars aren’t just low in calories — they actually have some impressive nutritional stats: Eight grams of protein, no artificial sweetener, only three grams of sugar, and five grams of fiber per bar. Plus, these smooth and creamy treats come in coffee, fudge, and orange cream flavors. At Greatist HQ, the favorite’s a tie between coffee and fudge. (I vote coffee!)
5. Maple n’ Oat Stuffed Apple
This snack is not only tasty — it’s lovely to look at, too. Boil 1 cup of steel cut oats in 4 cups of water. Stir in a pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg, and a drizzle of maple syrup, and turn the heat to low while the oats cook (covered) for 20 minutes. Serve in a hollowed apple (we like ‘em overflowing). If it’s too tough to eat raw, microwave the cored apple for a minute, and then fill it up. Or, if time’s on your side, stuff the apples with oatmeal and then bake for 20 to 30 minutes until the apple is tender.

6. Sweet Potato Fries
This one is easy as pie. (Sweet potato pie, that is.) Cut a sweet potato lengthwise, and toss the orange-hued wedges in oil, and spices for a new take on a hamburger’s BFF. Shhh, it’s a secret: A medium sweet potato has more potassium than a banana and five grams of fiber.
7. Pears and Cottage Cheese
Core a pear and slice in half top to bottom. Scoop low-fat cottage cheese on top of the pear and sprinkle with cinnamon or poppy seeds. One medium pear touts six grams of fiber.
8. Edamame Hummus
A new take on hummus, this spread adds some color and fiber to your dipping delight. Bring a pot of water to a boil, and toss in 2 cups of frozen edamame(16 whopping grams of fiber!). Boil for three minutes, remove from heat, and drain. Combine edamame, 3 cloves of garlic6 tablespoons of olive oil, a pinch of salt, cumin, paprika, cayenne, and a squeeze of lemon in a food processor. Blend until smooth. Serve with toasted pita bread or sliced veggies like carrots and cukes.
9. Pumpkin Yogurt Dip
Pumpkin, a superfood rich in beta carotene (essential for skin and eye health) is an easy and tasty way to sneak in some fiber, especially when it’s from a can. Mix together ½ cup of canned pumpkin puree½ cup of non-fat plain Greek yogurt1 teaspoon of honey½ teaspoon of vanilla, and a good helping ofcinnamon and nutmeg (or pumpkin spice if you’re feeling fancy). Spoon it straight or use as a dip with graham crackers or apple slices. (Note: Make sure to use plain pureed pumpkin, not pumpkin pie filling, which is loaded with sugar and salt.)
10. Quinoa Pizza Bites
These simple nuggets are full of flavor. Fresh basil and tomato paste make them really taste like pizza. The key fiber-filled ingredients, quinoa and kidney beans, also make for a stellar protein-packed snack. Protein powerhouse quinoa is one of the only grains or seeds that provide all the essential amino acids our bodies can’t produce themselves!
11. Rice Cake with Almond Butter and Pumpkin Seeds
For a snack with some crunch, schmear 1 brown rice cake with 2 tablespoonsalmond butter. (Get this: almond butter beats peanut butter when it comes to fiber, iron, and vitamin E.) For even more crunch (and fiber), sprinkle 1 tablespoon pumpkin seeds on top. The little green seeds are a super rich source of magnesium, which is especially good for strong bones. Extra bonus: Just half a cup of pumpkin seeds has about 14 grams of protein.

12. Banana Berry Oats
For quick microwave oatmeal, mix ½ cup rolled oats and a dash of cinnamon in a microwave-safe bowl. Stir in ½ cup of water and microwave for one minute. Remove the bowl, add ½ a banana (sliced), and cook for another minute. Stir in3 to 4 tablespoons of low fat milk or vanilla almond milk, and top with ½ to 1 cup sliced strawberries, blackberries, and other berries of choice. While all fruit helps out in the fiber department, berries are especially good sources — raspberries and blackberries have eight grams per cup.
13. Chocolate Bran Crunchies
For a seriously fiber-filled snack, grab a box of bran cereal, which has 10 grams of fiber per ½ cup serving. Combine 1 cup of bran cereal with ½ cup of slivered almonds, and 4 ounces (3 to 4 squares, depending on the bar) of melted dark chocolate (melt in a microwave in 20 second intervals until smooth). Spoon tablespoon-sized mounds of the chocolately delicousness onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and pop it in the freezer for 15 to 30 minutes to set.
14. Spiced Flax Balls
These balls get the fiber benefits of flax (five grams per tablespoon) plus their omega 3s. Pulse 1 cup of almonds in a food processor until finely chopped. Add ½ cup of ground flax seeds½ cup of dates½ cup of raisins¼ cup of chopped dried apricots¼ cup of shredded coconut1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and a pinch of nutmeg and ground ginger. Pulse the mixture until it sticks (you may want to add a teaspoon or two of water). Roll the dough into walnut-sized balls, then cover in cling wrap and refrigerate. Enjoy!
15. Blackberry Basil Popsicles
Toss 1 ½ cups of fresh blackberries (one of the highest fiber contents of any fruit), 1 handful of fresh basil¼ cup of honey, and the juice of one lemon into a food processor or blender. Puree the ingredients until well combined (strain out the seeds if you’d like it smooth). Add the mixture to popsicle molds or small paper cups, and freeze for at least eight hours. For extra big kid fun, pour the mixture into ice cube molds and add them to blackberry margaritas or a mojito for an icy, antioxidant-filled treat.
16. Feta-Stuffed Prunes
Grandma was right: Prunes can get you back on track. The dried plums (once you get over the stereotype of them being an “old people food”) are really sweet and delicious. Plus, prunes have an insane amount of fiber (12 grams for 1 cup). Eat them as is, or cut a small opening and stuff some feta or blue cheese in the center for a quick sweet-n’-savory bite. Bonus: Prunes are considered the epitome of a functional food(which means they’re really good at promoting health!) [1].
17. Chocolate Bean Butter
For a no-fuss sweet (but healthy!) snack, try out this chocolate spread. Combine 1 can of white kidney beans5 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder½ teaspoon of stevia powder (or sweetener of your choice), a pinch of sea salt3 tablespoons of coconut oil, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract in a blender or food processor and pulse until smooth (adding a splash of water or almond milk if it’s too dry). Spread onto a brown rice cake or use as a dip for sliced fruit. We know chocolatecan lower blood pressure but adding beans to the mix effectively pumps a healthy dose of fiber to the mix (6 grams for ½ a cup!) [2].
18. Buffalo Wing Hummus
Seriously, this is a real thing. It’s all the deliciousness of the Super Bowl, minus all the not-so-good stuff. Blend 2 cans of chickpeas2 to 3 cloves of garlic¼ cup of tahini¼ cup of lemon juice1 ½ teaspoons paprika3 tablespoons wing sauce2 tablespoons hot sauce1 tablespoon white vinegar, and a pinch of kosher salt. Puree until smooth and dip-able, and enjoy with celery and carrot sticks (or by itself…). The beans up the fiber content to a dip that usually gets its base from a fatty dairy source.
Kale ChipsPhoto by Perry Santanachote
19. Kale Chips
We’ll be honest here: These guys definitely don’t taste exactly like potato chips. But if you’re looking for a healthier (or more chic) way to crunch, kale chips are it. Preheat oven to 375. Rinse and dry 1 large bunch of kale, then remove the stems and tough center ribs. Rip the kale into large pieces, toss with a little olive oil, then sprinkle with some salt and pepper. Arrange in a single layer on a large parchment lined baking sheet (careful not to overlap). Bake until crisp, about 10 to 15 minutes, checking frequently (they can burn easily!).
20. Lentil Trail Mix
We did tell you trail mix can be a dangerfood. However, we’re about to give you a healthier option for this munchable snack, plus it’s pretty (and vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, and grain-free!).  Bake 1 cup of red lentils in a 350 degree oven on a baking sheet (after sprinkled with a touch of salt) for 30 to 35 minutes, or until they are crunchy. Chop up ½ cup dried apricots and pineapple, and toss the little chunks in rice flour to take away the stickiness. Combine lentils, fruit, ½ cup of pumpkin seeds½ cup of sunflower seeds, and ½ cup of dried cranberries, and munch away.
21. Banana in A Sweater
This easy-to-whip-together snack gets its fiber from superfoods flaxseedchia, and oats. In a small bowl mix 1 teaspoon of honey with 2 tablespoons of a nut butter of choice (peanut and almond tend to be our favorites, but for a different taste and texture, try pecan butter, cashew butter, or walnut butter). In a shallow bowl, mix 1 tablespoon of oats½ tablespoon of chia seeds½ tablespoon of ground flaxseed, and ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon. Coat a peeled banana with the nut mixture (it’ll be easier if the banana is cut in half), then roll it in the dry mixture. While the banana serves as a carrier for all the tasty toppings, it adds three grams of fiber, too.
22. Chocolate Peanut Butter Balls
Considering my love affair with chocolate and peanut butter as separate entities,a combo of the two really knocks it out of the park. Plus, these snack bites are actually healthy and you only need three ingredients to make ‘em. Mix 3 scoops of chocolate protein powder¼ cup of ground flax seed, and ½ cup of peanut butter (look for the unsalted variety). Form the mixture into small balls and pop in the freezer to set before eating.
23. Banana Chocolate Chip Quinoa Bake
The very best thing about this recipe is that it takes only five minutes to make. Grease a microwave safe dish (try coconut or vegetable oil on a piece of paper towel for a light coating). In a small bowl, mix 1/3 of a medium banana(mashed), ¼ cup of egg whites½ cup of quinoa flakes (the flake version of the superfood grain), 1 tablespoon of chocolate chips1 tablespoon of chopped pecans, and a pinch each of cinnamon and nutmeg. Pour the mix into the dish, and even out with a fork until it reaches all of the edges. Pop it in the microwave for two and a half minutes. Let it cool and enjoy!
24. Chocolate Crunch Mix
This is the ultimate homemade Chex mix. Combine 1 cup of Chex cereal1 cup of pretzel sticks broken in half, and ¼ cup of roasted almonds. Drizzle with 3 tablespoons of melted dark chocolate (to melt: microwave for one minute, stir, and continue heating in 20 second intervals until completely melted). Spread the mixture on a wax paper-lined baking sheet and refrigerate until the chocolate sets. For a little extra fiber, sprinkle in some sesame seeds.
Spicy Roasted ChickpeasPhoto by Lisa Cain
25. Spicy Roasted Chickpeas
Crunchy roasted chickpeas are becoming pretty popular at grocery stores, but they can bare a hefty price tag. These chickpeas are a heckuva lot cheaper, easy to make, and have a kick to them. Drain and rinse 1 can of chickpeas and add to a bowl. Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil½ teaspoon of salt, and ½ teaspoon of cayenne pepper and toss to coat. Arrange in a single layer on a foil-lined baking sheet and bake for about 15 minutes at 450 degrees. Take them out and shake ‘em around before returning to the oven for another 15 minutes, or until the chickpeas are brown and crunchy. Just half a cup of the little guys provides six grams of fiber and six grams of protein.
26. Pumpkin Spice Smoothie
Combine 1 cup of pumpkin puree1 tablespoon of honey1 frozen banana1 cup of unsweetened soy milk or almond milk2 tablespoons of ground flax seed, and a ½ teaspoon each of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cardamom(pumpkin spice works too). Aside from shelling out fiber, pumpkin is a great source of vitamin A, which is key for healthy eyes and also helps maintain heart, lung, and kidney health.
27. Fig and PB Dough Balls
Each of these dough hunks has four grams of fiber and just 150 calories. Grind ¾ cup of peanuts in a food processor until it reaches a fine crumb. Add in 2 tablespoons of maple syrup¼ cup of agave½ cup of oats2 tablespoons of peanut butter¼ cup of ground flax seed½ teaspoon of cinnamon, 2 tablespoons of chia seeds, and 6 dried figs. Pulse until the mixture begins to come together, and then roll into 1-inch balls.
28. Avocado Boat
Cut an avocado in half, and twist it to separate both pieces. Remove the pit, and fill up the hole with salsa and some shredded cheese. Aside from a pretty stellar fiber content (six grams for just half of a medium one), avocados are a fantastic source of monosaturated fats, which can help improve cholesterol levels, decrease the risk of heart disease, and benefit brain activity.
29. Black Bean Brownies
Brownies with beans? These fudgy squares take on the taste of chocolate way more than the beans — we promise. The batter forms up quick in a food processor, and doesn’t require a whole lot of prep work. More good news: Sneaking in black beans loads the brownies with fiber, and provides lots of folate, a nutrient that’s necessary to make DNA and RNA, the building blocks of cells.
30. Yellow Split Pea Spread
This spread makes for a colorful alternative to hummus. Dip veggies like broccoli, celery, or cauliflower, or try whole-wheat pita triangles. Veggies, on veggies, on veggies!
31. Popcorn
Popcorn is a whole grain, made from a seed so it can keep you fuller longer than other more calorie-laden snacks. For a budget friendly version, try popping a handful of kernels in a small brown bag in the microwave. Fold the rim of the bag over twice, and lay it horizontally in the microwave. Cook until popping begins to slow but doesn’t stop completely. To jazz up the regular old movie necessity, add fresh herbs like dill or parsley, or try a sweet variety with cinnamon, nutmeg, and honey (microwave it first for a bit to thin it out).
