`MAHABHARAT’ is a very huge and one of the most respected holy epics.
However, the most relevant and fundamental characters of it, as per my opinion, from management learning point of view are Shri Krishna and three families of the sons of Ved Vyas, the author of Mahabharat himself, as below:

Pandu, the father of Pandavas.

Dhritrastra, the father of Kauravas.

Vidur, the one who is popularly known for `Vidur Niti’
Vidur Niti : Vidur gave consultancy to his brother Dhritrastra about his views specific to the war between Pandavas and Kauravas and also about life as a whole, which is popularly known as `Vidur Niti’. Hence before we start learning FEW of the most valuable teachings by Vidur, let’s try to understand the management learning set-up of Mahabharat, looking at its FEW details as below:

Victory of Pandavas — Liberation of Soul i.e. Salvation/Moksha/Nirvana. It means our freedom from material lives on material planets Viz. Earth, Heaven and Hell ”

 

Historical Evidence of Mahabharata


 
As far as, drawing of astronomical map of 3000 BCE era goes, a wrong map could easily be drawn by anybody without citing the complexities and gaps in logic involved, anybody who is not a sincere qualified scientist can draw such a wrong map using available softwares.
 
This Kaul and group, is not aware of “Paul Lerner” and therefore not included him in his list of agnosticism, “Paul Lerner” is a graduate of Cambridge university and now a faculty, who did write a book “Astrological Key in Mahabharata” and tried establishing that Mahabharata war is merely a symbolization of Spring Equinox falling to Asvini-Chitra axis, there was no actual war, Paul identifies, Yudhisthir, the eldest of Pandavas with Ajameedha and relates that with zoidical sign of Aries ( Aja), and thereby, “Paul Lerner” establishes knowledge of Signs existing in Indian land, But, another aspect of Paul Lerner’s so called research is absolutely trash that there was no happening of Mahabharata war, we find there are variety of people with their level of intellect and agenda.
 
The debate has already established that Greeks were not knowing anything specific either about Zodiacal – Signs or about Zodiacal – Nakshtras as listed in Atharva Veda ( Nakshtra Sukta, 19’th chapter)  with explicit reference to Moon’s path, Kaul being perfect ignorant and a copy cat, never knew about Moon’s path in the Nakshtra Sukta, those guys are also running away from having a debate on their anti vedic panchanga, this is their level.
 
“Paul Lerner” underlines that epic relates to the appearance of constellation of  Canis Major, particularly Sirius, that’s a star of southern hemisphere and was also visible at plane of India-Egypt  but never from Europe or Greece particularly.
 
So far as ascertaining the timing of Mahabhrata is concerned, Dwaraka excavations provide archaeological inputs, the oldest reference to Mahabharata is found in Griha Sutras, such asAsvalayana Griha Sutra’s 3rd adhyaha that cites Mahabharata and enlists Mahabharata age sages, next comes Patanjali who also cites Mahabharata heroes, Asvalayana also gives same astronomical  pointers of watching Shaptarshi and Arundhati stars at the time of marriage by just married couple in the beginning of evening, that’s calculated by Tilak, Jacobi and arrived at, to be a phenomena of  2000 BCE to 2300 BCE, this period is ratified by number of astronomers without exceptions, Thus, Asvalayana, Apastmba grihasutras relates to era 2000 BCE to 2500 BCE and Therefore, we are clear that Mahabharata didn’t war happen after 2000 BCE, Coincidently, one of the opponents of Mahabharata’s occurrence with the beginning of Kaliyuga i.e before 2000 BCE, The well known, RN Iyngar too excites and supports Shaptarshi-Arunndhati phenomena of that antiquity and makes a contradiction to his own argument against Aryabhatta’s citation and so many others for Kaliyuga age and latest dating of Mahabharata by Prof Narhari Achar..

INTERESTING INFORMATION ON THE CHARACTERS IN HINDU MYTHOLOGIES
Mandavi and Shrutkirti, the wives of Bharata and Shatrughana
respectively where the daughters of Kushadbhoja,the brother of King
Janaka.
Demons Madhu & Kaitabha who were killed by Lord Vishnu at the
creation of the world were born as Atikaya & Trishara, as sons of
Ravana & Dhanyamalini.

Ravana’s associates.
Goddess Saraswati is shown holding Book, Rosary, Pot of scared water
& Vina depicting knowledge, spirituality, purification & Art
respectively.
Manthara, cursed Indera, the king of gods that he would not be
worshipped, as he prompted her to instigate kaikeyi for the exile of
Rama.
Pavak, Pavamana & Shuchi, the three sons of Swaha, the daughter of
Daksha who was married to Agni consume all the oblations offered to
fire of Yagna.
Atri proclaimed the theory of 3 strands that represent creation-
Brahma-“A”, sustenance-Vishnu-“U” & destruction-Shiva-“M” ie
“AUM” of the sacred thread Janeu.
Durga-beyond reach, Bhadrakali- power of time,Lalita-playful, Chandiviolent,
Annapurna- food giver, Amba- the mother & Bhairavi-fearful
are forms of Parvati.
1st form of Maa Durga- “Shailputri” worshipped on the first Navratra
mounts on the bull holding a lance in the right hand & a lotus in the left
hand.
Brahmacharini the 2nd form of Maa Durga-known as Aparna holds a
rosary & Kamandalu in her right & left hand & blesses unending
benefits of restraint.
“Chandraghanta” third facet of Durga has 10 hands, 3 eyes & bell
typed half moon on her forehead is worshipped for peace, tranquility &
prosperity.
Krishnamanda/Adi- Swarup/Astbhuja created universe with her smile,
Destroys diseases, sorrows & depression, blesses age, health &
reputation.
Lord Kartikeya-Skanda who was commander in chief in the war against
the demons was son of Skanda Mata. She is worshipped on 5th day of
Navaratri.
6th form of Maa Durga- Katyayni-has 3 eyes & 8 hands, was born to
Rishi Katyayan who practiced penance with a desire to get Paramba as
his daughter.
Black like night, having unlocked hair, wearing necklaces, shining like
lightening, riding on dead body-KALRATRI is the 7th facet of Maa-
Durga.
Fair as conch, moon & Kunda flower, having her body washed by Lord
Shiva with Ganga’s water, 8 year old- is Maha Gauri- the 8th facet of
Maa Durga.
Siddhi’s such Anima, Mahima, Garima, Laghima, Prapti, Prakamaya,
Isitwa & Vasitwa are blessed by the 9th facet of Maa Durga Siddhidatri.
Anirudda, grand-son of Krishana married Usha, daughter of Banasura
a thousand-armed asura the son of Bali.
Lord Rama was thirteen, when he married Sita who was six years old
By all means marry. If you get a good wìfe, you will be happy. If you get

A Mahayug is a sum total of Sat yug, Treta yug, Dwapar yug and Kal
yug and the lifespan of a Mahayug is 43, 20,000, multiple of 9.
The operator of the universe Lord Vishnu had nine Incarnations so for.
The life span of Satyug is 17,28,000 years, of Treta Yug is12,96,000
years,of Dwapar yug is of 9,96,000 years and that of Kalyug is 4,32,000
years. The life span of every yug is a multiple of 9.
The prime system of worship in Kali-yug is “Sat sang”, in Dwapar it
was “Pooja/ Archana”, in Tretha it was “Yagya” and in Satyug the
prime system of worship was “Tapasya”.
Lord Vishnu had his seventh incarnation as Maryadha Parshotam
Rama in Treta- Yug and had his eighth incarnation as Karm yogi
Krishna in Dwapar-Yug.
“Kyadu” was the mother of “Prahlad Bhagat”, the wife of
“Hiranyakashyapu” wrongly known as “Hiranyakashyap” who was
actually his elder brother. “Holika” was the sister of Hiranyakashyapu
who tried to set Prahlad on fire but was burnt herself.
“Kumbh Mela” festival takes place after twelve years at the following
four locations in India:-. Prayag, at the confluence of three rivers
Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati,
Haridwar, on the bank of river Ganga, Ujjain,on the bank of Ksipra
river and Nasik, on the bank of Godavari river.
The short tempered Rishi Durvasa was the son of Rishi Atri and
Ansuiya and is known as one of the incarnations of Lord Shiva.
“Raj Gopalacharya” was the first who translated Ramayana in
English.
Shubh ( luck ) & Labh ( profit ) are known as the two sons of Lord
Ganesha, the God of fortune.

Four temples of Lord Shiva in the state of Maharashtra are known as

disciples.
The preceptor of devas, Brihaspati identified as Jupiter one of the
planets (Navgrah) was the son of Angirasa and Surupa.
Lord Shiva’s body consists of five faces- Sadyojata, Vamadeva, Aghora,
Tatpurusa and Isana which are known as Pancabrehmans.
According to Indian Mythology the vehicles of Kubera, Indera and
Yum-Raj are Pushpak- Viman, Aravat (the elephant) and Buffalo
respectively.
Goddess Sheetala , God Varun and Shani had donkey, seven swans and
crow as their respective vehicles.
The seven sacred rivers of India are Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari,
Saraswati, Narmada, Sindhu and Kaveri.
Kardam Rishi & Devhuti were the parents of 9 daughters- Kala,
Ansuya, Gati,Kriya, Khyati, Arundhati, Shanti, Havirbhu & Shraddha
& 1 son- Rishi Kapil.
Lord Shiva has six, eight and twelve arms while in boon giving form,
destructive form and benign form respectively.
Siddhidhatri, Kalaratri, Shailputri, Brahmacharini, Katyayani,
Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandmata and Mahagauri are known as
the Nava Durgas.
Dattatreya was the confluence of Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara.
Goddess Meenakshi, the sister of Lord Vishnu and the consort of Lord
Shiva had three breast before her marriage.
Lord Vishnu had incarnations as Preshni-Garav, Upinder & Krishna
born to the same parents with different names Pershin/Sulpa,
Aditi/Kashap & Devki/Vasudev.
In Sanskrit “Ga” stands for Knowledge, “Na” for Transcendence &
“Ish” for lordship. It means Ganesha stands for lord that transcendence
the knowledge.
The troops of Lord Shiva were known as “Gana”. Lord Shiva
appointed Ganesha as commander of His troops, thus he is known as
Ganapati.
Son of Surya -Sanjana & husband of Shamale, Yum-raj is also known
as Mrtyu, Kala, Antaka, Vaivasvata, Sarva-panchera & Dharam-raj.
The first Shloka “Verse” spoken by Lord Krishna in The Bhagwad Gita
is number 11 of Parva “Chapter” 2 .
Ashta Lakshmi comprises of Adi Lakshmi, Dhanya Lakshmi, Dhairya
Lakshmi, Gaja Lakshmi, Santana Lakshmi, Vidya Lakshmi, Vijaya
Lakshmi & Dhana Lakshmi.
“Rahu-Ketu” the uninvited are the head and body of the same being
while Rahu represent short lived fortune, Ketu denotes the feeling of
emptyness.
Among the Panch Parameshwaras Lord Shiva, Vishnu, Ganesha,
Surya and Maa Durga, lord Shiva is known as Maha Deva.
Bhagavad Gita is like a lighthouse of eternal wisdom that inspires any
man or woman to supreme accomplishment & enlightenment.
Ishvara/ Supreme controller, Jiva/ soul, Prakriti/Matter, Dharma/duty
& Kala/time are philosophical subject matters explained in the
Bhagavat-Gita.
Amravati is the capital of Swarga ruled by Indera the king of gods &
Alakaapuri is the capital of Kubera, the God of Wealth.
Lord Rama was born on 10th January, 5114 BC. HE was exiled for 14
years on his 25th birth day. He killed Bali on 7th Oct. 5077 BC.
Out of 700 verses of Gita , 577, 79.5 , 42.5 and 1 have been recited by
Lord Krishna , Arjuna , Sanjay and Dharitrashtra respectively.
Ganesha the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati is the only son of
God and Goddess who too is worshipped.
The robes of saffron color worn by the Indian sages are a symbol of
renunciation of all worldly pleasures & the flag of Sanatan Dharma too
represents this.

Symbolism of Mahabharata

The Mahabharata symbolizes the Creation of the Universe, and the Creation of Man from Spirit or the Supreme Consciousness, into Matter. The discourse in the Gita is the process by which one could reverse this descent. In other words, it details the steps by which man can reascend from his limited consciousness as a mortal being, back to the immortal consciousness of his true Self, merging with the Infinite (Spirit), from whence he came.

 

–      Man is born with the following, The Mind (Manas), Intellect (Buddhi), Ego, and Our Samskaras.

–                     Bhishma is referred to as Ego. Bhishmais derived from the Sanskrit root bhi or bhis, to frighten, and asmiI am. He is the most powerful opponent of the Pandavas. Ego is the reflected consciousness; the reflection of God, the image of God in man, that forgets it’s true divine Self and becomes identified with the powers of perception and action in the instruments of the body and mind.

 

–        Drona, the Teacher, is Habit or Samskara. As the preceptor, he taught archery to both Pandavas and Kauravas, but during the battle he sided with the Kauravas. Past thoughts and actions create impressions on the consciousness. These impressions or Samskaras, create strong tendencies to repeat themselves

 

 

–                     Dhritarashtra, represents Manas, the Sense Mind, or theBlind Mind, that which is without discriminating power; hence Dhritarashta is born blind, from Ambika and Vyasa. He has two wives.

–                     Gandhari, his first wife, represents the Power of  Desires.

–                     Vaishya, his second wife, represents the Attachment of Desires.

–                     Duryodhana, represents Material Desire. He is the firstborn of the 100 sons of Dhritarashtra, with his wife Gandhari. His name is derived from the Sanskrit word dur meaning difficult and yudhmeaning to fight. Hence he becomes the king and leader of the Kauravas, the king and leader of all worldly enjoyments.

–                     The 100 sons represent the 100 offspring of the blind sense-mind. These consist of the 5 sense instruments of perception: sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch; and the five sense instruments of action: speech, manual ability, locomotion, procreation and excretion. Each of these ten, have ten tendencies or propensities; hence 100 offspring.

–                     Yuyutsu, the 101 son, is born from Dhritarashtra’s  second wife, Vaishya. He represents the Desire to give Psychological battle.

 

–                     Pandu, represents Buddhi, the pure discriminating intelligence, the positive aspect of the mind. He has two wives.

–                     Kunti, the first wife, represents the Power of Dispassion (free from emotion or Prejudice)

–                     Madri, the second wife, represents the Power of attachment to Dispassion.

–                     Pandu had 5 sons, 3 from Kunti and 2 from Madri. The 5 sons represent the 5 Tattvas or elements that make up all matter: ether, air, fire, water and earth. The five elements are not elements as defined by science, instead they are five subtle vibratory forces into which the Creative Force differentiates itself. Within the spinal column of man are five subtle centers of consciousness, called Chakras that create and sustain this body. These chakras also bestow divine powers to an enlightened person who has awakened the spiritual consciousness within. The three sons of Kunti represent the Vishuddha Chakra (cervical), Anahata Chakra (heart), and the Manipura Chakra (lumbar). The two sons of Madri represent the Swadhisthana Chakra (sacral) and Muladhara Chakra (coccyx). The structure of the spinal cord also shows a differentiation supporting the divisions of the three sons of Kunti, with the two sons of Madri. The spinal column extends to the level of the lumbar vertebrae, as one solid structure. From the lower lumbar to the coccyx, the spinal nerves with their ganglia, extend downwards like the tail of a horse, and has been named cauda equina(horses tail). It has the same origin, (as in having the same father) but are at the same time different. They are the location of the 2 sons of Madri. Also significant to the spiritual aspirant (Sadhaka), is the function of the first three chakras, versus the last two. The first three are important in the inner spiritual activities of the Sadhaka; the lower two, are important for the purification of his external activities.

–                     Yudhistir, is Divine Calmness or Divine Discrimination and the Ether Element in the Cervical Center or Vishuddha Chakra. Ether remains unchanged, and undisturbed by the violent plays of nature’s forces. Similarly, waves of sensual or emotional desires that can ripple the consciousness, and distort perception, have no effect on Yudhistir. He is the power of comparison between good and evil. He is the common sense that perceives all that is virtuous. He is the son of Dharma.

–                     Bhima, is Prana, the Power of Vitality, the Air Element in the Dorsal Center, or Anahata Chakra. Hence why Vyasaji wrote that he is the son of the God Vayu, the God of Wind. The aspiring Sadhaka, practices his Pranayama that is controlled by this center, thereby calming the breath and controlling the mind and all of its sense objects.

–                     Arjuna, is Self-Control, the Fire Element in the Lumbar Center or Manipura Chakra. This center is for the purification of mind and body, making intense meditation possible. Arjuna is seen as the chief devotee of Lord Krishna, because he represents self-control, patience and determination, without which, no spiritual progress is possible. This center provides the fire-force of mental and bodily strength to ward off the attack of the sense forces of materialism and sense-bound body consciousness.

–                     Nakula, is Adherence, the Power to Obey Rules of Dharma, the Water Element in the Sacral Center, orSwadhishthana Chakra. Adherence to Dharmic principles, allows the Sadhaka to control mental tendencies.

–                     Sahadeva, is Restraint, the Earth Element in the Coccyx Center, or Muladhara Chakra. He is the Power of Resistance by which restless outer sense organs can be controlled.

–                     Karna, the first son of Kunti, is Attachment(Raga), the inclination that dwells on pleasure. Hence his friendship with Duryodhana (Material Desire), and his battle with his half-brothers, the Pandavas. Interestingly that Vyasaji in placing him in context, has indicated that he is born of the Sun, the light of the consciousness of the spiritual eye, he is brought up by a charioteer, in a place other than where he was born. He is brought up in the Pons Varoli, the seat of Manas, the sense mind, or Dhritarashtra. The word Karna also means “the helm of a ship”; hence Vyasaji is indicating that Karna can be steered inwards through the spiritual eye, to the calm waters of the spiritual consciousness, or outwards into the stormy waters of attachments and sense forces.

–                     Drona, the Teacher, is Habit or Samskara. As the preceptor, he taught archery to both Pandavas and Kauravas, but during the battle he sided with the Kauravas. Past thoughts and actions create impressions on the consciousness. These impressions or Samskaras, create strong tendencies to repeat themselves. The word Drona comes from the Sanskrit word dru, meaning in a melted state.This indicates that past actions and thoughts remain in melted form as impressions on the consciousness of man. Good Samskaras help to create good thoughts, actions and habits. When the Samskaras are evil, they create wicked thoughts that result in evil actions and habits. If the dominant tendencies are wicked, then the inner urges joins the overwhelming wicked mental tendencies, against the angelic forces. Hence, with Duryodhana and his sense army in control, Drona or Inner Urges, joins his army, and attacks the Pandavas.

Dhritarashtra’s Distress

Dhritarashtra’s distress:

It is only in sorrow that we realise who is dear to us. Dhritarashtra is unhappy and unable to sleep. He sends for Vidura, though it is well past midnight. He wants to talk to his half-brother Vidura, for he has foresight and is just. Vidura arrives and answers Dhritarashtra’s questions. He tells him that one should be impartial and just while making up one’s mind. One should not tilt towards one’s dear ones. Dhritarashtra has erred in supporting his son, knowing well that Duryodhana’s quest is unjust. As a father, it is his duty to advise his son rightly. Vidura’s words of advice have validity even today, said Kidambi Narayanan.

Vidura says the body is like a chariot and gnana is the charioteer. Our senses are like horses. Gnana is what controls the senses. He points out that in Dhritarashtra’s case, he has allowed his affection for his son to rule his life, thus depriving Yudhishtira of his kingdom. In all ways, Yudhishtira is more worthy of the kingdom than Duryodhana.
One who is ruled by his senses and not by sense becomes disturbed in mind. He who desires what belongs to others loses sleep. A man whose opponent is strong loses sleep, Vidura tells Dhritarashtra. In the dispute between the Pandavas and the Kauravas, the latter are facing a strong enemy. The Kauravas are also coveting a kingdom that is not theirs rightfully. And when Dhritarashtra has been supportive of his sons’ wrong desires and actions, he goes without sleep.

Vidura lists the qualities a ruler should possess: he should be righteous, generous and brave, and he should know how to protect his subjects; he should be learned. On all these counts, Yudhishtira is superior to Duryodhana, says Vidura. On the one hand are the Pandavas — Yudhishtira, who never wavers from the path of righteousness; strong Bhima; Arjuna, the master archer; and the twins Nakula and Sahadeva. But with Duryodhana are deceitful people like Sakuni. Would it be proper to entrust the kingdom to them, Vidura asks Dhritarashtra. Thus, the cause for Dhritarashtra’s distress is Dhritarashtra himself.
