If you don’t suffer from Ulcers then you are lucky. But not
everyone is as lucky as you. One who has Ulcerative Colitis suffers from abdominal pain, bleeding, weight loss, cramping and more.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for this condition and most of the people rely on Alternative Medicine for relief. What helps ulcer pains?

1. Tender coconut water – Helps soothe your inflamed colon.
2. Banana – Have a banana daily to promote the healing. Bananas are known to help with intestinal disorders as they have an antacid effect. They are a filling meal and a great fruit to go with you to school or work.
3. Probiotics – To control the harmful bacteria and to soothe the colon probiotics are the best. Ask your doctor if you can take the probiotic supplements available in the market.
4. Boswellia – It is a great herb native to India. The resin acquired from the Boswellia bark have potent anti inflammatory properties making it an ideal supplement for conditions like arthritis, ulcers and Crohn’s disease.

Moreover, it is found to have less side effects than most of the other medications. Boswellia should not be consumed by pregnant women as it can cause birth defects.
5. Omega 3 Fatty Acids-Fish oil supplements may help with the inflamed gut and give you relief from cramping. Start the supplement only with you doctor’s permission.

Diet Pattern
Sometimes, a little caution with diet may help to reduce the discomfort associated with Ulcers.

1. Avoid eating sweets.
2. Reduce carbohydrates.
3. Ensure adequate intake of Vitamin C (spinach, parsley,
strawberries) and continue if it offers relief.
4. Reduce or avoid animal fat.
5. Watch out on proteins.
6. Strictly avoid alcohol.
7. Have folates. Ask your doctor about how much folic acid you would need.
8. Avoid acidic foods. Bromelain (found in pineapple) is found to reduce the symptoms. But a pineapple might not be a good idea as it is acidic.

Realise that stress can worsen any of your health conditions and Ulcerative Colitis is not an exception. Manage your stress well to aid healing.
