Ban all Missionaries in India

Tolerance in Hinduism
Posted: 03 Sep 2013 11:03 AM PDT
According to Paul William Roberts, "Conversion has largely failed in India because Christianity offers nothing that is not already available somewhere in the many forms of Hinduism. Hinduism never rejected the teachings of Jesus. Those who have converted either agreed with a gun pressed at their skulls as in Goa, or because it provided an escape from caste tyranny, as well as a guaranteed professional advancement. Through its Vedic legacy, Hinduism respects all faiths. It clearly states that God is one, but has many forms. The Christian message must sound preposterous: that God is indeed one, but has only one recognized form, his son. The "savages" of India were sophisticated – so sophisticated that the imperialist mixture of church and state in Europe could not grasp such sophistication.

The sheer power of Hinduism terrified the Christian soldiers. The British were more cunning at the game than the Portuguese, careful to show respect for Indian religions. Yet they sneered at the pagans behind their back, educated the Indian elite in British-run schools, or at Eton and Cambridge – which, if it did not guarantee conversion to Christianity, resulted in lapsed Hinduism, agnosticism, or an intellectual humanism.

In India, Anglo indoctrination produced a generation of "brown sahibs" who looked down on the religion of the masses, the opium of the people. Such is the power of colonization that a whole generation must pass before the paralyzing spell wears off. "
(source: Empire of the Soul: some journeys in India – By Paul William Roberts p. 323-325)

To quote Sir Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, " The intolerance of narrow monotheism is written in letters of blood across the history of man from the time when first the tribes of Israel burst into the land of Canaan. The worshippers of the one jealous God are egged on to aggressive wars against people of alien cults. They invoke divine sanction for the cruelties inflicted on the conquered. The spirit of old Israel is inherited by Christianity and Islam, and it might not be unreasonable to suggest that it would have been better for Western civilization if Greece had molded it on this question rather than Palestine. Wars of religion which are the outcome of fanaticism that prompts and justifies the extermination of aliens of different creeds were practically unknown in Hindu India."

(source: The Hindu View of Life – By Sir. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. p. 39-41) Material in this book was originally delivered in the form of lectures, the Upton Lectures, in 1926, at Manchester College, Oxford.)

From the earliest date the Christian church had taught that all the pagan religions were invented by the devil. The whole early medieval psychology of sin was bounded with this. St. Augustine had sanctioned the idea that the demons persuaded the ancients to false belief. Some of the most virulent attacks on pagan gods are to be found in St. Augustine’s De Civitata Dei. This goes a long way in explaining the deliberate Christian attempts to portray the Hindu gods as demonic and the intolerance of the Christian missionaries.

The Vedas say that " the wise call the One by many names", and exhort us to "let good thoughts come to us from everywhere"; in the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna assures the adherents of all religions that "those who pray with devotion to another god, it is to Me that they pray."

Many foreign groups of people persecuted for their religion came to seek refuge in India. The Parsis (Zoroastrianism) have thrived. The heterodox Syrian Christians have lived in peace until the Portuguese came to enlist them in their effort to christianize India. The Jews have expressed their gratitude when they left for Israel because India was the only country where their memories were not of persecution but of friendly co-existence. All these groups were not merely tolerated, but received land and material support for building places of worship. Yuan Chwang, Chinese traveler, reports that at the great festival of Prayaga, King Harsha dedicated on the first day a statue to the Buddha, another to the sun, the favorite deity of his father, on the second, and to Shiva on the third. The famous Kottayam plates of Sthanuravi (ninth century AD) and the Cochin plates of Vijayaragadeva bear eloquent testimony to the fact that the Hindu kings not only tolerated Christianity but granted special concessions to the professors of that faith. Today, The Tibetan Buddhist and their spiritual head, the Dalai Lama have taken refuge in India, from the persecution of Communist China.

Hinduism is fabulously famous for its tolerance for all religions. What it cannot tolerate is any religion that declares it has a unique monopoly over God. Hinduism classic contention as stated at the outset in the Rig Veda:
"Truth is one; sages call it by different names." or "Ekam sath, Vipraah bahudhaa vadanti"
"How artistic, that there should be room for such variety – how rich the texture is, and how much more interesting than if the Almighty had decreed one antiseptically safe, exclusive, orthodox way. Although he is Unity, God finds, it seems, his recreation in variety!" But beyond these differences, the same goal beckons."

Hate literature by Christian Missionaries
Posted: 03 Sep 2013 10:33 AM PDT
Christian fundamentalists are aimed at destabilising the Hindu society and also the state. Christian fundamentalists’ literature is making rounds in the whole country, heaping abuse on Hindu deities and mocking at the religious symbols and practices of the Hindus. Apart from “aggressive harvesting” efforts this literary insinuation against Hindu religion is one of the major causes of communal disturbance in the country.

Take for instance, a book in Malayalam with a title Haindava Suvishesheekaranam. It interprets the meaning of the sacred Pancakshara mantra Om Namah Shivaya as “Let Evil Befall” (p. 113).

The magazine Indian Messenger (September 1998) calls the great Kumbha Mela, which attracts millions of Hindu devotees, a superstitious deception. “The belief that the mud of sins in human souls can be purified for ultimate liberation through Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati is superstitious. The Kumbha Mela represents this superstitious deception,” it says. But strangely in a superstitious tone and words it claims: “Liberation from sins can be attained only by the unpolluted blood of Christ the virtuous.” Note not only the superstitions but also the audacity of the suggestion. Shri Sai Baba, to these Christian fundamentalists, is a satanic spirit and Mata Amritanandamayi a mentally retarded woman. To quote: “The miracles said to have been performed by Sai Baba is mere magic. Satanic spirit dwells in him. Mata Amritanandamayi is a mentally retarded woman. She is half mad and what she does is stupidity”.

Again, the Haindava Suvishesheekaranam says: “No Hindu gods and goddesses exists who have not surrendered to Christ. If Krishna, Rama and Indra surrendered before Christ, what other evidence is necessary to prove that he is the only true God” (p. 181-182).

This Christian fundamentalist propaganda literature often describes Bharat as a “State of Devil”. Dr K.P. Yohannan in his book Anant Prakash mein Jeevan Vyatheeth Karain writes: “Every time a Hindu is baptized and converted to Christianity, there is a great disturbance in the State of Devil” (p. 114).

Dr. Yohannan’s is not the solitary instance. In fact, he is one of the many who project such views. Another statement in a book named Samvaad: Kyon and Kaisai (Masibi Drishtikon Se) by Dr Benzami Khan are equally inciting: “Moral values play a negligible role in Hindu religion” (p. 98). Common Hindu traditions are always ridiculed. For example application of bindi, tilak sindoor are jeered at as devil eye and related to satanic spirits. “Even though tilak is considered a symbol of Shiva by the Hindus, the use of these symbols is dangerous and gives them an opportunity to come under the influence of satanic spirit.

The missionary propaganda literature has throughout indulged in spreading canards against the Hindu society. It also twists and misrepresents the facts. For instance: “The old Hindu political, economic and philosophical writings like Kautilya’s Artha Sastra and Manu Samiti did not count the dalits and the tribes as human being. The vedas treated them as Chandals, Gita and Mahabharata showed them as wild animals like monkeys and Rawanas.” This is what you read in Bishop Nirmal Minz’s bookRise Up, My People, And Claim the Promise. He goes on to write: “In the past they (tribes) have been treated as something less than human, according to Hindu attitudes and understanding.”

Finally, if these propagandists are to be believed, the majority of the Hindus are slaves, untouchables, Poor, looters, thieves and nonbelievers. A book Confusion called Conversion by Sunder Raj is entirely devoted to malign the Hindu people. Now tell us who are the haters of the other religionists?

Missionaries failed to convert Mahatma Gandhi
Posted: 03 Sep 2013 10:13 AM PDT

Converting Mahatma Gandhi Just as converting Dr. Ambedkar to Buddhism was expected to bring in a group of Dalits into the Buddhist fold, strenuous marketing efforts were made to convert Gandhiji to Christianity so that a mass of Hindus would fall in line and embrace Christianity. But Gandhi frowned upon proselytizing. He said: " I claim to be a staunch Sanatani Hindu because, I find the Hindu scriptures to satisfy the needs of the soul. I would dispute the claim that Christianity is the only true religion." (source: The Mahatma and The Missionary – By Clifford Manshardt p. 58-59). " Religion is not a matter of barter." (ibid.p. 71). "Yes, I do maintain that India’s great faiths are all-sufficing for her.." (source:Collected works of Mahatma Gandhi 1969)Vol. 46 p.28-29). Mahatma Gandhi has stated -"God is not so helpless in winning souls all by himself as to need anybody’s help."

Quotes from Gandhi on Conversion

I believe that there is no such thing as conversion from one faith to another in the accepted sense of the word. It is a highly personal matter for the individual and his God. I may not have any design upon my neighbor as to his faith which I must honor even as I honor my own. Having reverently studied the scriptures of the world I could no more think of asking a Christian or a Musalman, or a Parsi or a Jew to change his faith than I would think of changing my own. (source: Harijan: September 9, 1935).

I came to the conclusion long ago … that all religions were true and also that all had some error in them, and that whilst I hold by my own, I should hold others as dear as Hinduism. So we can only pray, if we are Hindus, not that a Christian should become a Hindu … But our innermost prayer should be that a Hindu should be a better Hindu, a Muslim a better Muslim, a Christian a better Christian. (source: Young India: January 19, 1928)

Why should a Christian want to convert a Hindu to Christianity? Why should he not be satisfied if the Hindu is a good or godly man? (source: Harijan: January 30, 1937) .
I am not interested in weaning you from Christianity and making you Hindu, and I do not relish your designs upon me, if you had any, to convert me to Christianity.

I would also dispute your claim that Christianity is the only true religion. (source: Harijan: June 3, 1937). Conversion nowadays has become a matter of business like any other … India (Hindus) is in no need of conversion of the kind … Conversion in the sense of self-purification, self-realization, is the crying need of the times. That however is never what is meant by proselytizing. To those who would convert India (Hindus), might it not be said: Physician heal thyself. (source: Young India: April 23, 1931)

I hold that proselytizing under the cloak of humanitarian work is unhealthy to say the least. It is most resented by people here. Religion after all is a deeply personal thing. It touches the heart. Why should I change my religion because a doctor who professes Christianity as his religion has cured me of some disease, or why should the doctor expect such a change whilst I am under his influence? (source: Young India: April 23, 1931).

Christianity in India has been inextricably mixed up for the last one hundred and fifty years with British rule. It appears to us as synonymous with materialistic civilization and imperialistic exploitation by the stronger white races of the weaker races of the world. Its contribution to India has been therefore, largely negative. (source: Young India: March 21, 1929).

Ah yes…there is no end to stupidity, especially when it comes to mental nut jobs like Cindy Jacobs who has the power to influence so many others in the name of her beloved whatizhisnameijustcan’tseemtoremember fatherwhowashisownsonholyspiritetcetcetc

And people like her end up going to other countries and become god’s spokespersons to influence the innocent masses! What a shame!

Food control for Brahmins! INPUT decides BODY AND SOUL!

The nature of FOOD consumed by Brahmins is given such tremendous importance in Sastras, that it makes one wonder if all this restriction is really needed or not? The answer by all the Acharyals is a resounding YES to food control! (for other than Brahmins, there are many exeptions and relaxation in the rules and they are not discussed here.)

I am not bringing in SCIENCE here to prove or disprove the SASTRAS as science looks at the physical world and physical body while SASTRAS also look at other layers of existence. The RISHIS "SAW" what was good for the people and prescribed the rules to be followed. You are free to do all the investigations, but ultimately you will benefit only if you follow the rules to the extend it is possible by you.

Questions:

  1. Why should we FAST on EKADASIS and other VRATA days?
  2. Why should we prepare the food inside the home and not expose it to every one?
  3. Why we should not consume food prepared or served by other castes?
  4. Why we should avoid ONION and GARLIC and other banned items from food?
  5. If food is prepared (by other castes) very neatly like in 5 star hotel, even then, why we should not consume it?
  6. Why we should be very scrupulous about washing before eating?
  7. Why should we NOT take food while standing?
  8. Why we should not keep the food on the laps or hold (the plate) it in the hand while eating?
  9. Why we should consume the food within few hours after preparation and not keep it over night?
  10. Why cooked food kept in FRIDGE is still considered as OLD FOOD to be avoided?
  11. Why liquor in any form is banned?
  12. Why we should first offer food to the GODS before eating it?
  13. Why the restrictions are much more on SHRADDA days?
  14. Why we should feed the sick, old, young and guests before eating?
  15. WHY……………?

ANSWER:
The Sastras simple do not answer any WHY question! The rule is there and you have to follow it. First KNOW the rules then try to follow as much as possible. Ignorance is no bliss. SASTRA says, follow it and it is good for you. Ignore it and surely you are in trouble sooner or later!

Sastra is KIND enough to allow relaxation of many rules while travelling and during ABATH KALA- during difficult period and situations. But one cannot be in ABATH KALA all the time! So avoid situations which will make you violate these rules or try to find ways of slowly coming out of such practical difficulties.

No outside food, no hotel culture!

TRY THE RULES AND EXPERIENCE IT TO KNOW THE ENORMOUS BENEFITS OF PEACE OF MIND AND SATTVA WHICH WILL RESULT FROM IT. Giving BIG SCIENTIFIC AND INTELLIGENT TALKS WHILE HOLDING a glass of wine andEATING A PIECE OF MEAT WILL LEAD TO DOOM AND sure IT WILL.

V.Muralidharan.

JALANDHAR/WASHINGTON: Respectful of her privacy, the media may have given Sonia Gandhi a wide berth on her private trip to the US for medical treatment, but a Sikh group wants to serve court summons on theCongress president for shielding party officials allegedly involved in the November 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

The US-based rights group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) had hired a process service company to track down Gandhi, who is currently believed to be in the US for medical check-up, in order to serve on her summons issued by the US Eastern District Court of New York in connection with a civil action case.

In a lawsuit resulting in the September 3 summons, SFJ and victims are seeking compensatory and punitive damages against Gandhi for her role in "shielding and protecting Union Cabinet minister Kamal Nath, Jagdish Tytler and other Congress leaders from being prosecuted for their crimes against humanity". The complaint has also cited discovery of mass grave at Hondh Chillar village of Haryana in February 2011 to drive home the point that a cover up continued for all these years.

Under US process, the plaintiff has120 days to serve summons, after which the defendant has 21 days to respond. SFJ activists indicated they are aware Gandhi is in the US, most likely in New York City, but appeared uncertain about how to serve the summons.

"We have some idea where she is staying but she has already got the tip that there are summons out for her," SFJ legal advisor Gurpatwant Singh Pannun told TOI, explaining the idea behind hiring a process server. Even if they failed to serve the summons on her personally, there were two other options, he said: Serving it at the office of the Overseas Indian National Congress, or at the party headquarters in New Delhi.

Pannum said the lawsuit against Gandhi under the Alien Tort Claims Act (ATCA) and the Torture Victim Protection Act (TVP) "is motivated by an interest in seeking some form of justice for the victims of November 1984 Sikh genocide and raise awareness in the international community regarding denial of justice to the victims, and deterring future abuses". Congress party partisans believe the lawsuit is a frivolous attempt to gain publicity.

On its Facebook page, SFJ changed its cover photo to one of Sonia Gandhi under the caption "US Courts are looking for you".

"Sonia Gandhi is in the US and believes because she’s there on a medical visit, she is immune from any legal action. Well Gandhi, I got news for you… SFJ will come after you when you’re healthy, SFJ will come after you when you’re sick, SFJ will come after you and anyone else, if they’ve ever participated in the killing of innocent Sikhs or provide protection for those who murdered innocent Sikhs!" the text below it read.

These 6 people are responsible for India’s economic crisis

T N Ninan

September 02, 2013

[These six people have created a political climate more difficult for business, indeed more hostile to business, than at any time since the mid-1980s]

Kapil Sibal said in Parliament the other day that politicians are the most accountable among all categories of people.

So, how accountable do six people, who between them have run the economy these past five years, feel as they survey the mess around them? All but one of them spoke this past week.

Sonia Gandhi told Parliament that if there was no money for the “food security” programme, then money would have to be found – but she did not care to suggest how.She also said that if the public distribution system had its defects, they would have to be fixed – again, the details were beneath her.

If the isolation at 10 Janpath is not like living on Mars, the Congress president must know that the economy faces urgent challenges, and that the last things it needs are irresponsible laws;so she must tell us whether she really thinks that two-thirds of Indians go to bed hungry.

Accountability, Mr Sibal?

Then, the finance minister appeared to ignore a good rule in public life (don’t criticise your predecessor or successor).

His comments about economic policy in 2009-11 were interpreted as targeting Pranab Mukherjee, who having become the president can only seethe in private.

To his credit, Mr Chidambaram confounded sceptics (including the writer) by controlling the fiscal deficit last year, but he has focused more on financing the current account deficit than on addressing that deficit; taxed gold imports and revived its smuggling, instead of asking why people prefer gold to financial instruments; and bungled the attempt to arrest the rupee’s fall.

Care to guess what a future finance minister might say when the time comes?

D Subbarao responded later to the criticisms about his record as central bank governor. He was man enough to admit that he may have got it wrong on monetary policy, but he also gave a parting shot to the government and specifically the finance minister.

But surely, Dr Subbarao cannot pass the buck entirely; he has to bear some of the responsibility for allowing the rupee to stay too long at a level that priced out exports and caused the gaping current account deficit for which he blames the government.

As for Manmohan Singh, he was anodyne in his statement on the economy.

Even those favourably disposed towards him have been forced to recognise that his prolonged inaction and weak-kneed acquiescence to steps that damage the economy, will be permanent taints.

In Ratan Tata’s damningly simple phrasing, he has failed to provide leadership.

Finally, Montek Singh Ahluwalia’sespousal of the idea of public-private partnerships has led to flourishing crony capitalism, and a backlash against business.

More accessible than the others, Mr Ahluwalia is ever willing to step up to the plate and defend the government, with his usual smooth articulation.

But he must know that he carries progressively less conviction as the government’s record in office becomes steadily more indefensible. He could be seen as the boy on the burning deck.

Between them, these six people have created a political climate more difficult for business, indeed more hostile to business, than at any time since the mid-1980s.

It’s not just crazy new laws, but also retrospective tax changes, arbitrary and excessive penalties on companies,
stupid conditions when inviting foreign investment, poor macroeconomic management, and no predictability about what might come next.

Still, if the rapid economic growth that made so many politicians so unhappy becomes history, even as aam aadmi spending balloons, we might get to settle the Sen vs Bhagwati-Panagariya debate — as to which of the two is better for getting rid of poverty.

The Great Mystery

NS Rajaram

01 September 2013

[It’s an indispensible source for researchers to learn what really happened to Subhas Chandra Bose and how successive Congress Governments have been hiding the truth]

‘India’s Biggest Cover-Up’

Author: Anuj Dhar

Publisher:
Vitasta,

Rs 600

The real mystery is not Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s death in a plane crash at the Taihoku airport in Farmosa (Taiwan) on August 18, 1945, which never took place, but what really happened following his disappearance until his probable death in exile 40 years later in Faizabad (near Ayodhya). It is a story also of national disgrace — of venality, political turncoats, spineless bureaucrats and incompetent professionals from government forensic experts to investigators. Above all, it is the story of a government cover-up and stonewalling that puts the Watergate scandal to shame.

All this is told in exhaustive detail in ‘India’s Biggest Cover-Up‘ by Anuj Dhar.

While praised in some circles, Dhar’s book has not received the attention it really merits. Partly it is due to the nature of the book, loaded with immense amount of detail from primary sources including classified documents from several countries. This may appeal to serious scholars, but not the present generation of ‘historians’ prospering by peddling cartoon histories that glorify Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. When the full truth comes out, it will be found to be highly damaging to the two leaders. Buckling under pressure, they agreed to hand over Bose to the British as a war criminal if he ever showed up in India!

First the air crash story. When the news of Netaji’s death in an air crash came both Gandhi and Nehru disbelieved it, but soon reversed themselves. The truth is there had not been a plane crash in the region between August 14 and October 25; the nearest was the crash of a US transporter (C-47, Hercules) carrying prisoners of war in September, that too 200 nautical miles from the Taipei airport. Then a search in the records revealed that Netaji and others on the plane supposedly killed in the crash had not been cremated in the city as claimed in official accounts. The only person cremated in the period was Ichiro Okura, a 46 year-old Japanese soldier who had died of a heart attack. Netaji and others had not been cremated because they hadn’t died.

Here is the only certainty we have about the Netaji affair: He did not die in a plane crash in Taiwan because there was no plane crash. In fact he could not have been on the Mitsubishi Ki-21 bomber that was supposed to have carried him from Saigon, because he was seen by several people in Saigon four days later. Among them was the American war correspondent Alfred Wegg who was in Delhi later; he challenged Nehru when he announced Netaji’s death in a press conference. The story was disbelieved in British and American military circles also who had kept close track of Japanese plane movements. (Americans had broken the Japanese code.)

If Netaji did not die in August 1945, what really happened? This is the real mystery that India’s Greatest Cover-Up tries to answer though in fragmentary accounts and plausible scenarios based on a wealth of material from diverse sources. One thing we do know is that with the full support of the Japanese, Netaji was planning to cross over into Russia from Manchuria and continue his struggle against the British from there. The Japanese, about to surrender to the Anglo-American forces, hoped that Bose might intercede on their behalf with the Soviets. The story of his death in a plane crash was a smokescreen to facilitate his escape to the Soviet Union.

It appears highly probable, even if not entirely certain, that he spent the next several years, perhaps 1946-50, as a guest of the Soviet Union. This was the period when the Cold War descended on the globe and wartime allies turned into adversaries. One thing that becomes clear is that internationally it was Bose who was seen as the foremost leader of India’s freedom struggle — not Gandhi or Nehru. Even after the transfer of power in August 1947, the Soviets (and Communist China) believed that Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was only a front for continued Anglo-American rule of India.

This was partly because both Gandhi and Nehru were British-educated and even more because they went on to ask Lord Mountbatten to continue as Governor General after Independence. (How and why this happened has never been explained.) This also helps answer the question why Netaji did not return to India in 1947: The Soviets had probably convinced him that the British still controlled India through Nehru even after Independence, which they saw as a sham. Both Indian and Soviet authorities have so far failed to cooperate with Indian researchers seeking information on this.

Both Gandhi and Nehru had reason to fear Netaji’s return to India after the War. Decades of Congress propaganda has built up Nehru’s stature to mythic heights while simultaneously diminishing Bose’s. The truth is, in 1946, it was Bose — not Nehru — who stood tallest in the eyes of the public. It was the return of Bose’s INA and the fear of mutiny in the armed forces, which did materialise in 1946 following the Red Fort trials, that forced the British to leave in a hurry. This is acknowledged by the British including by no less a person than Clement Attlee, then Prime Minister.

Had Bose been in India in 1947, Nehru could not have become Prime Minister. As it was, he was opposed by all the State leaders who voted; they preferred Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. It took all of Gandhi’s persuasion to get Patel to withdraw in favour of Nehru who Gandhi felt would be more acceptable to the international community — meaning the British and the Americans. (This may be seen as lending support to the Soviet belief that Indian independence was a sham.)

This would not have worked with Bose who was much younger than both Nehru and Patel. In addition, unlike Nehru who was Gandhi’s protégé, Bose owed nothing to the Mahatma. In fact, in 1939, Gandhi had fiercely opposed Bose as Congress president and forced him to leave. So he was in no position to ask Bose to step aside in favour of Nehru. The Indian Government, however, was almost paranoid in the way it pursued every rumour about persons suspected to be Bose. Why bother if they were sure of Bose’s death in the plane crash of August 1945?

There is some evidence for Bose’s presence in the Soviet Union, but the next several years are a complete blank. This period was dominated by the Cold War and there is evidence to suggest that the British and the Americans kept track of Bose as a potential enemy. He was a friend of the Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh and was believed to be a critic of American policy. In international affairs Bose was strongly anti-imperialistic and decidedly to the left of Nehru, though he was also anti-Soviet.

The most absorbing chapter is the 10th titled ‘The ‘Dead Man’ Returns’, which recounts the life and career of a Hindu holy man known as Bhagwanji. He was widely believed to be Bose by many including those who had known him earlier, before he left India to lead the INA. Of these, Bose’s niece Lalitha Bose and his childhood friend Lata Roy, a distinguished freedom fighter in her own right, are the most convincing. They found Bhagwanji bore a striking resemblance to Bose including missing teeth and a surgical scar on his abdomen!

It is impossible to do justice to a work of this magnitude in a brief review. All one can say is that it opens many new areas of research that go beyond the Netaji disappearance mystery. What we need is follow up books that explore different aspects of Netaji’s post-crash career suggested in the book. They have the potential to radically transform our view of the freedom struggle. A popular account would also help.

JALANDHAR/WASHINGTON: Respectful of her privacy, the media may have given Sonia Gandhi a wide berth on her private trip to the US for medical treatment, but a Sikh group wants to serve court summons on the Congresspresident for shielding party officials allegedly involved in the November 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Pancha Thanthra Stories

Pancha Thanthra Stories

The swan and the Owl
Once upon a time there lived a beautiful swan in a pond. An owl from the nearby tree came once to the pond and saw the beautiful swan swimming in the pond. He wanted to be a friend of this beautiful swan and therefore told the swan that he would like to be friendly with the swan. The swan agreed and both of them became thick fiends. As the days passed the owl became unhappy and hence told his fiend, swan, the he wanted to go to the Lotus wood where he had a good house and if the swan wanted to see him, must go the Lotus wood and went back to his house. The owl cannot see during day time and hence remained in the hole all the day time and came out during night to hunt..

One day the swan wanted to see his old friend, the owl, and went to the Lotus Wood and started searching his friend who was hiding in his hole during day time. Hence he came out during night and told his friend, the swan to meet him during night. We, Hindus, believe that hearing the hooting sound of an owl as a bad omen. One fine morning some merchants were going through the lotus wood singing and praising the Lord almighty. The owl heard this and started hooting according the tune of the song. The merchants who were all Hindus heard this sound and thought it to be a bad omen and hence took their bow and arrows and aimed at the place from where they heard the hooting sound. As they took the bow and arrows without thinking the danger posed and leaving his friend went to the nearby hole and hid himself. As the arrows came, the swan which did not move, hit him and immediately he died.

What we learn from this story is “ NEVER BECOME FRIENDS WITH UNDESIRABLES AND CHEATS “.

Regards and Namaskarams,

Importance of the Ganapati Mantra

hAPPY gANESH CHATHURTHI TO ALL

Importance of the Ganapati Mantra

In Hinduism the formal way to worship a deity is to recite a hymn or a specific prayer in their name. This is called a mantra. A mantra is mostly in Sanskrit and has a spiritual meaning. Every deity has a specific mantra and Lord Ganesha is no exception. With Ganesha’s being one of the most important and powerful deities in Hindu culture the Ganesh mantra or Ganapati mantra has significant importance for the devotees.

The Ganapati mantra is recited not just in honour of Lord Ganesha but also for overcoming obstacles, attaining prosperity, wealth and knowledge. It can be as simple as saying “Shri Ganeshaya Namah” or “Om Gang Ganadhirajaay Namah”, to chanting elaborate mantras. The popular ones with their meanings are given below.

“Vakratunda Mahakaya”

This is one of the most important Lord Ganesha’s mantra. It is recited for Lord Ganesha and Riddhiand Siddhi. The reason for its incantation is to attain prosperity and wealth. It is believed by the priests that recitation of this mantra 1, 25,000 times brings wealth, prosperity and knowledge. All one needs to do is believe and be dedicated to reciting the mantra the given number of times.

“Om Hreeng Greeng Hreeng”

This mantra is also known as the Shaktivinayak mantra. This is recited primarily for financial prosperity.

“Hastipishachilikhey Swaha”

A Tantrik mantra this is again recited for financial and materialistic prosperity.

“Om Ganesh Rhinam Chhindhi Vareniyam Hung Namah Phutt”

A Rhinaharta mantra, it is recited to keep poverty at bay.

“Om Shreeng Hreeng Kleeng Glaung Gang Ganapatye Var Varad Sarvajanmey Vashmanay Tha Tha.”

This Ganesha mantra is one of the most important Ganapati mantra. Most of the important occasions of worshipping Lord Ganesha start with this mantra. This is recited to worship the Lord who removes obstacles.

“Rayaspaushasaya Dadita Nidhido Ratan Dhatuman Rakshohanovalaghano Vakratundaay Hung”

Not as popular with the devotees, this mantra is more popular amongst priests.

“Om Shreeng Gang Soumyaay Ganapatye Var Varad Sarvajanmmey Vashmanay Swaha”

This is a mantra that is dedicated to Goddess Laxmi and Lord Ganesha. Since it has the power to invoke the two Gods of financial prosperity , it is believed to be effective in that regard.

“Vakratundaikdaikdanshtraay Kleeng Hreeng Shreeng Gang GanapatyeVar Varad Sarvajanam mey Vashmanay Swaha”

This mantra is known as the Trailokya Mohan Kar Ganesha Mantra. It is believed to bring peace to the one who recites it.

“Om Hung Gang Glaung Haridra Ganapatye Var Varad Sarvajan Hridayam Stambhay Stambhay Swaha”

This mantra is known as Haridra Ganesh Mantra. This mantra is recited for marital happiness. It is specifically recited to remove impotency and bless the devotee with a child.

“Om Namo Siddhivinayakaay Sarvakaryakartrey Sarvavighanprashamnay Sarvarjya Vashyakarnaay Sarvajan Sarvastree Purushakarshanaay Shreeng Om Swaha.”

This mantra is known as the Siddhi Vinayaka mantra. As the name suggests it brings in Siddhi which is spiritual prosperity. It is believed to bring the devotee peace and spiritual happiness if recited 108 times every day.
The mantras stated above are some of the most popular mantras not just with the devotees but also the priests. These are recited particularly on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi and (or) otherwise.
