WE MISS …

A man sat at a metro station in Washington DC and started to play the violin; it was a cold January morning. He played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, since it was rush hour, it was calculated that thousands of people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.

Three minutes went by and a middle aged man noticed there was musician playing. He slowed his pa…ce and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried up to meet his schedule.

A minute later, the violinist received his first dollar tip: a woman threw the money in the till and without stopping continued to walk.

A few minutes later, someone leaned against the wall to listen to him, but the man looked at his watch and started to walk again. Clearly he was late for work.

The one who paid the most attention was a 3 year old boy. His mother tagged him along, hurried but the kid stopped to look at the violinist.

Finally the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. All the parents, without exception, forced them to move on.

In the 45 minutes the musician played, only 6 people stopped and stayed for a while. About 20 gave him money but continued to walk their normal pace. He collected $32. When he finished playing and silence took over, no one noticed it. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition.

No one knew this but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the top musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth 3.5 million dollars.

Two days before his playing in the subway, Joshua Bell sold out at a theater in Boston and the seats average $100.

This is a real story. Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station

was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and priorities of people. The outlines were: in a commonplace environment at an inappropriate hour: Do we perceive beauty?

Do we stop to appreciate it? Do we recognize the talent in an unexpected context?

One of the possible conclusions from this experience could be: If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing the best music ever written, how many other things are we missing?

Many people never apologize. They are either too self-conscious, self-righteous, stubborn, or arrogant to do so. The unwillingness to apologize is not just sad; it is a serious mistake as well. Almost everyone expects others to make mistakes and with a humble and sincere apology, almost everyone is willing to forgive. However, if you are a person who is either unable or unwilling to apologize, you will be branded a difficult person to work with. And over time, people will avoid you, speak behind your back, and do nothing to help you.
The ability to apologize, to admit mistakes, is a beautiful human quality that brings people closer together and helps us succeed. By simply acknowledging our humanness and saying “I am sorry” when appropriate, we bond with others and increase their trust in us. Obviously, you must never apologize as a tool of manipulation, to try to get a response like this or to get something out of it.
When you apologize from your heart, you keep most of your existing doors open. Occasionally, you may even open doors that had previously been closed.

On saying I’m Sorry

Whenever you are in some service or when you are taking risks, making things happen, interacting with others, or in the public eye you are bound to make mistakes. At times you are going to use bad judgment, say something wrong, offend someone, criticize unnecessarily, be too demanding, or act selfishly. The question isn’t whether you will make these mistakes we all do. The question is, can you admit to them? If so, the question becomes, can you apologize?

Many people never apologize. They are either too self-conscious, self-righteous, stubborn, or arrogant to do so. The unwillingness to apologize is not just sad; it is a serious mistake as well. Almost everyone expects others to make mistakes and with a humble and sincere apology, almost everyone is willing to forgive. Mount Makiling in Laguna is a legendary mountain that has inspired numerous tales, poems and legends owing to its mystical dweller and
protector – Maria Makiling. The contour of the mountain is said to be the sleeping/reclining profile of Maria Makiling. Our national hero,
the great Jose Rizal himself published an article in La Solidaridad about Maria Makiling:
“According to eyewitness, she was a young woman, tall and graceful with big black eyes and long and
abundant hair. Her color was a clear pure brown, the kayumangging kaligatan, as the Tagalogs say.

Her hands and feet were small and delicate and the expression of her countenance always grave and
serious. She was a fantastic creature, half nymph, half sylph, born under the moonbeams of Filipinas,
in the mystery of its ancient woods, to the murmur of the waves on the neighboring shore.

In fact, Mount Makiling is an inactive volcano that rises to approximately 1,109 meters above sea level and stands at about 3576 feet. It is a
forest reserve undedr the official stewardship of the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB).  The mountain is ideal for hiking, camping,

trekking, mountain biking, and bird watching.

Mt Makiling hosts man-made attractions such as the Makiling Botanical Garden > and The National Arts Center ; its natural attractions include the
mountain’s highest peak (the Peak II), the Flat Rocks, and the Mud Springs.

Flat Rocks is basically a river bed where numerous and huge “flat rocks” can be found. Although the water was inviting, we were not allowed to swim,
there were lots of leeches/blood suckers (limatik in Tagalog) there.

The Mud Springs has been popularly but erroneously known as the crater of Mt Makiling. The Mud Springs site is actually one of the mud pots left
in the mountain. “A mud pot is a type of hot spring that is formed when due to volcanic heat, sulfuric acid breaks down surrounding rocks into clay.

These boiling pots of mud produce a very strong and distinctive/offensive sulfuric smell (warning to those with asthma or other respiratory diseases).
You can also see thick smoke coming out from the sulfuric vents.

Margarin – GOOD STUFF ??????

Pass The Butter … Please
.

This is interesting
 . .. .

Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back.
It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow colouring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavourings….

DO YOU KNOW.. The difference between margarine and butter?

Read on to the end…gets very interesting!

Both have the same amount of calories.

Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams; compared to 5 grams for margarine.

Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.

Eating butter increases the absorption of manyother nutrients in other foods.

Butter has many nutritional benefits wheremargarine has a few and only because they are added!

Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavours of other foods.

Butter has been around for centuries wheremargarine has been around for less than 100 years.

And now, for Margarine..

Very High in Trans fatty acids.

Triples risk of coronary heart disease …

Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)

Increases the risk of cancers up to five times..

Lowers quality of breast milk

Decreases immune response.

Decreases insulin response.

And here’s the most disturbing fact… HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING!

Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from beingPLASTIC… and shares 27 ingredients withPAINT
These facts alone were enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).
Open a tub of margarine and leave it open in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will notice a couple of things:

* no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)

* it does not rot or smell differently because it hasnonutritional value ; nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic . Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

(If you Want To Butter Them up’)!

Chinese Proverb:
When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, you have a moral obligation to share it with others.

Pass The BUTTER PLEASE  !!!!!

 Structural Engineers in action
Whether you’re a ‘bird person’ or not, this is stunning!
Not to detract from the sheer magic of it, but in practical terms, how M A NY trips would a bird have to make with that tiny little quantity of mud/clay it could carry? (and how far from the nest is the source?)

If you take the construction of a “circular bowl” in your stride as instinctive – how the heck does the bird come up with the windbreak entrance design that shields the eggs/chicks from the elements – and at what point in fashioning the bowl do they start to construct it?

Having Worked At Unilevers Premier Margarine Factory in the UK For 1 Year,

As A Management Trainee,

And Then in Sri Lanka Managing Margarine Manufacture,
I can safely admit that what you are about to readis true !!

Pass The Butter … Please

Very High in Trans fatty acids

Nature’s Structural Engineers

 Structural Engineers in action
Whether you’re a ‘bird person’ or not, this is stunning!
Not to detract from the sheer magic of it, but in practical terms, how M A NY trips would a bird have to make with that tiny little quantity of mud/clay it could carry? (and how far from the nest is the source?)

If you take the construction of a “circular bowl” in your stride as instinctive – how the heck does the bird come up with the windbreak entrance design that shields the eggs/chicks from the elements – and at what point in fashioning the bowl do they start to construct it?

Hari Ohm. Raama naamam
Once a Guru or teacher was teaching Vishnu sahasra naamam to a group of boys aged between 8 and 12 years.

Guru chanted the slokam

Sri Raama Raama Raamethi Rame Raame Manorame

Sahasranaama Tathulyam Raama Naama Varaanane

and told the students
” if you chant Raama naamam three times, it is equivalent to chanting the whole Vishnu Sahasranaamam or chanting Lord’s Naamam 1000 times. One of the boys was very naughty and always had questions about everything the teacher said. Immediately he asked ” Guro, how can three times become equal to 1000 times, I do not get the logic. Please explain to us how that equation of 3 naamams =1000 naamams works”.

Guru was not only smart, but was a great devotee of Lord Raama. In one moment, Guru knew how to explain the validity of the unusual equation. He said:

Lord Shiva says that the name of Lord Rama is the sweetest of all the words & chanting this name would be equivalent to chanting the whole Vishnu Sahasranama or thousand names of Vishnu .

Here is the interesting calculation by which we can prove that 3 times chanting of Rama naamam becomes equivalent to 1000 times chanting or chanting the whole Vishnu Sahasra naamam.

Take the name Rama. It has two letters RA and MA.

When you take the consonants in Sanskrit alphabet,

RA is the second consonant in the group of five consonants Ya, RA, La, Va, Sha and

MA is the fifth in the group of five consonants Pa, Pha, Ba, Bha, MA.

When you substitute the value of RA and MA as 2 and 5

RAMA is equivalent to 2×5= 10. Then,

Sri Rama Rama Rama (iti) is equivalent to 2×5 x 2×5 x2x5= 10x10x10= 1000.

The boy was happy with the answer and started learning Vishun Sahasranaamam with full concentration and devotion
