in search of self: Charity- be kind to others and God will reward you.
Charm of Charity A poor young man was helpless, homeless and hopeless. He lost his job and had no one to help him. Depressed and dejected, he decided to commit suicide. He collected all the coins he had with him and bought from a shop a ripe banana wrapped in an old newspaper. He opened the packet and started to eat his last food when an old beggar approached him. With trembling lips, the beggar told him that he has not had anything to eat for several days and was too weak to walk. The young man felt pity and gave the banana to the beggar. He ate it with great joy and thanked him. While leaving, the beggar gave him a very old coin, saying, “Thank you very much. You gave me everything you had. Kindly accept this coin as my humble gift.” When the old man departed, he carelessly glanced at the piece of paper used to wrap the fruit. There he saw an advertisement from an agency dealing with old coins. Any one possessing old coins was invited to visit the agency and receive suitable price for their old coins on the spot. Out of simple curiosity, he carried the coin to the agency, which was quite close to him. He showed the coin gifted by the beggar. The person managing the agency stared at it and exclaimed in excitement, “What a surprise! It is very rare and several centuries old. It is worth a fortune!” He was given a hefty sum of money as the price of the rare coin. Jumping with joy on receiving the unexpected amount of money, he searched everywhere to find the old man who gifted him the coin. He wanted to share his joy and the money with the beggar. But he could not find the beggar anywhere. He started a new life with renewed hope and enthusiasm. Kindness cannot be given away. It always comes back! Jabali Muni. “ MUST & WORTH ” - READING !!!!!
Once upon a time there was a rich King who had four wives. He loved the 4th wife the most and adorned her with rich robes and
treated her to the finest of delicacies. He gave her nothing but the best.He also loved the 3rd wife very much and was always showing her off to neighboring kingdoms. However, he feared that one day she would leave him for another. He also loved his 2nd wife. She was his confident and was always kind, considerate and patient with him. Whenever the King faced a problem, he could confide in her, and she would help him get through the difficult times. The King’s 1st wife was a very loyal partner and had made great contributions in maintaining his wealth and kingdom. However, he did not love the first wife. Although she loved him deeply, he hardly took notice of her or even fed or clothed her properly! One day, the King fell ill and he knew his time was short. He thought of his luxurious life and wondered, “I now have four wives with me, but when I die, I’ll be all alone.”Thus, he asked the 4th wife, “I have loved you the most, endowed you with the finest clothing and showered great care over you. Now that I’m dying, will you follow me and keep me company? “No way!”, replied the 4th wife, and she walked away without another word. Her answer cut like a sharp knife right into his heart. The sad King then asked the 3rd wife, “I have loved you all my life. Now that I’m dying, will you follow me and keep me company?” “No!”, replied the 3rd wife. “Life is too good! When you die, I’m going to remarry!” His heart sank and turned cold.He then asked the! 2nd wif e, “I have always turned to you for help and you’ve always been there for me. When I die, will you follow me and keep me company?” “I’m sorry, I can’t help you out this time!”, replied the 2nd wife. “At the very most, I can only walk with you to your grave.” Her answer struck him like a bolt of lightning, and the King was devastated. Then a voice called out: “I’ll go with you. I’ll follow you no matter where you go.” The King looked up, and there was his first wife. She was very skinny as she suffered from malnutrition and neglect. Greatly grieved, the King said, “I should have taken much better care of you when I had the chance!”In truth, we all have the 4 wives in our lives: · Our 4th wife is our body.
No matter how much time and effort we lavish in making it look good, it will leave us when we die.
· Our 3rd wife is our possessions, status and wealth.
When we die, it will all go to others.
· Our 2nd wife is our family and friends.
No matter how much they have been there for us, the furthest they can stay by us is up to the grave.
· Finally, our 1st wife is our Soul.
Often neglected in pursuit of wealth, power and pleasures of the world.
However, our Soul is the only thing that will follow us wherever we go.

The ability to motivate employees is one of the greatest skills an entrepreneur can possess. Two years ago, I realized I didn’t have this skill. So I hired a CEO who did.
Josh had 12 years in the corporate world, which included running a major department at Comcast. I knew he was seasoned, but I was still skeptical at first. We were going through some tough growing pains, and I thought that a lack of cash would make it extremely difficult to improve the company morale.
I was wrong.
With his help and the help of the great team leaders he put in place, Josh not only rebuilt the culture, but also created a passionate, hard-working team that is as committed to growing and improving the company as I am.
Here are nine things I learned from him:
Blogger: Hariharan Krishnamurthy (K..HARIHARAN) – Publish Status.
The enemy army was almost at the gates. The city would surely fall. The
only solution was to get Akbar to lead his soldiers. Mansingh ran into the
palace to fetch the emperor and found Akbar in the garden listening to
Tansen. Birbal stopped Mansingh from entering the garden. The emperor did
not want to be disturbed. Tansen’s song ended.
Akbar asked him to sing another song. An impatient Mansingh said, “The city
is on the verge of being destroyed and he is listening to music ! What’s
wrong with him.” Birbal retorted, “He is not listening to music. He is
figuring out battle strategies.” Mansingh retorted, “What nonsense, all I
can hear is the notes of Tansen’s wonderful voice. No strategies there.”
Birbal laughed, “That is why you are merely a commander and Akbar is the
emperor.”
Wisdom comes from the oddest of places. Ideas can come from anywhere. The
difference between a pathfinder and a follower is the pathfinder’s ability
to see similarities between even the most distinct domains – music and
battle strategies, for example. Followers are unable to understand the
underlying principle and so need clear domain-specific examples.
When Michael moved to Mumbai to take up a job at a pharmaceutical company,
he realised that rules that worked back home in Germany would not work in
India. When asked why, he said, “Oh, just look at how Indians eat!” Nobody
understood. He explained, “In Germany, a proper meal is a course meal:
soup, starter, main course and dessert. You eat what the chef cooks. But in
India, a proper meal is a thali: all dishes are served simultaneously, the
sweet and the sour and the pungent and the crispy. Everyone mixes and
matches the food differently.
So what one person puts in his mouth is very different from what another
person puts in his mouth. This is the ultimate in customisation. A culture
like this would not be comfortable with rules. People here would always
like to bend the rules to their convenience, unlike Germany, where we enjoy
following rules. I have to work harder here to get everyone to align and
comply.” Unlike most expats, Michael figured out a way to work with his
Indian colleagues without being autocratic or authoritarian. He was wise
enough to see common patterns between office behaviour and the way we eat
food – a true hallmark of a pathfinder.
During interviews, Narendra would ask the interviewees about Bollywood. As
they spoke, he would see how they analysed the plots and the characters and
the stars and by that he would be able to figure out how their mind
functioned. Did they think originally? Did they follow the trend? Were the
trend followers or trendsetters? Were they open to suggestion? Were they
opinionated? Were they arrogant? The study of principles that are not
impacted by the domain is known as tattva-gyan.
News reached the king of Matsya that his son, Uttar, had singlehandedly
defeated the Kaurava army, pushing back great warriors like Karna and
Duryodhana. The city prepared to welcome the young prince – the streets
were watered, the buildings decorated with flowers, lamps and fluttering
flags. King Virata’s heart was filled with pride. His son had done the
impossible. He ordered the poets to compose a song in Uttar’s honor.
“But sir,” said a priest standing next to Virata, “Does it not seem odd
that a slip of a boy was able to defeat such mighty warriors? Surely he had
help. Maybe from his charioteer, Brihanalla, the eunuch, who once served
Arjun, the great archer?” The king ignored what the priest had to say and
continued praising his son. Once again the priest said, “Surely sir, you do
not believe he did it all alone. He must have had the support of another,
perhaps Brihanalla, the eunuch, who once served Arjun, the great archer.”
Again the king ignored him and continued praising the king. Again the
priest suggested that it might have been the eunuch-charioteer not the
prince. Only this time, the king reacted violently. “Shut up!” he shouted
and slapped the priest so hard that his nose started to bleed.
The priest had been speaking the truth. Uttar had indeed been helped by the
eunuch-charioteer, Brihanalla, who was actually Arjuna in disguise. But the
king was not ready to receive the truth. He wanted to enjoy the alleged
success of his son but the priest, in his relentless pursuit of
correctness, did not appreciate a father’s desire. The priest’s truth was
cold and insensitive. The king wanted compassion, at the cost of the truth,
for some time at least.
The priest was Yudhishtira in disguise. This event takes place in the final
year of exile of the Pandavas when they had to lose their identity and live
incognito. The purpose of this humiliation was to reveal to Yudhishtira the
human desire for delusions and the importance of being gentle with harsh
truth.
One day, Brahma, father of all living creatures, found a grain of rice at
his feet. “Who is responsible for you?” he asked. The farmer claimed
responsibility, as he had sown the seed and harvested the grain. The seed
claimed responsibility, as without a seed, no grain can be created. The
soil claimed responsibility, as without soil a seed cannot germinate.
The sun claimed responsibility, as without sunlight plants cannot grow.
Finally the rain claimed responsibility as unless there is timely and
adequate rain, nothing can grow. “Everyone is essential for the creation of
the grain,” said Brahma, “But only one is critical: the farmer. It is the
farmer who makes a plant a valued crop. Without him, rice would have been
just another weed in the wild forest.”
So it is with business. Who claims responsibility for success? At the time
of investment, no one really knows if the business will be successful.
Success is always realised in hindsight. Who takes the credit for the
business: the entrepreneur, his employees, the banker?
It is very difficult to pinpoint a single factor to success. But
ultimately, everything depends on the entrepreneur who took the initiative
to transform an idea into reality. Had he not had the desire, had he not
overcome his doubt, the enterprise would never take shape.
In the Rig Veda, the poet wonders what existed before everything else. And
after much pondering he concludes, the first to exist, even before breath,
is desire – kama. Without kama, there would no movement from formlessness
(asat) to form (sat), from darkness (tamas) to light (jyoti), from
hopelessness (mrityu) to hope (amrita). The entrepreneur is the seat of
kama, without whom culture would not exist.
Parakh asked his father: to what did the family owe its fortune? His father
said, “To the consumers who buy the metal we produce, to the workers who
work in our mines, to the government which regulates us fairly, to the
market that has been favorable, to the earth which provides us the minerals
that we mine, but most importantly to my grandfather who invested all his
wealth in the mining business.
They were traders then, but he wanted to be involved in a primary industry,
something close to earth, that would support all other industries. His
family did not support him. So he raised capital on his own. Your great
grandfather’s desire and ability to cope with risk, is the critical factor
without which we would not be where we are.”
Unable to bear his poverty, a priest went to the temple and begged the
deity there for a solution. That night the deity left a golden pot in the
courtyard of the priest’s house. The priest found the golden pot with some
water in it. He threw the water out and went to the market where he sold
the pot to a merchant. With the money he received, he repaid all his debts
and returned home a rich man laden with gifts for his family. Soon after,
his family fought over the vast wealth, everyone from his wife to his
children to his parents and his siblings demanding their share.
Unable to bear the mental agony, the priest went back to the temple and
complained to the deity. “You have added to my problem not solved it with
the golden pot”. And deity said, “Golden pot? What golden pot? I gave you
the elixir of contentment, enough for you and your family. It happened to
be contained in a golden pot. Did you not drink it?”
Every job is a golden container full of water. The pot is the salary that
pays our bills and the designation that pleases our desire to feel
significant. But in each job is potentially the opportunity to grow
intellectually and emotionally. Each job contains the seed of learning that
can germinate in our mind, if we allow it to. Unfortunately, jobs are seen
more in economic terms (the pot) than in learning terms (the water).
When Jacob retired, he expected that the company would throw a farewell
party. This did not happen. He expected that the company would miss him
terribly and call him back. This did not happen either. He felt unwanted
and small. He did not matter, he realised. So when he went back to claim
his final dues, he went with a heavy heart. As he waited outside the
office, familiar faces passed him by. Some stopped and spoke to him, some
smiled, some just ignored him. At that moment, Jacob had a Eureka moment.
He realised he did not need his job to validate himself.
That is what he was doing and that was his problem. The office, like the
forest, outlives the resident beasts. The beasts find nourishment in the
forest but eventually they die. The forest continues to be neither loving
nor hating towards its resident beasts. Animals do not resent the forest
when it is time for them to go, but humans do. Why?
Animals work for survival. Humans are the only animals who also work for
meaning. Hence in Sanskrit, the same word, artha, is used to indicate
economics, politics and meaning. Jobs can give us money and power (the pot)
but they can also give us wisdom (the water). Do we drink the water?
As Jacob speculated, he drank the water. Suddenly wisdom dawned. He felt
like Newton hit by an apple. He realized that he was expecting too much
from the organisation. It neither loved him nor hated it. It gave him value
and he gave value to it. And now it was time to part ways, without rage or
resentment. With that, Jacob found his final artha and quenched his thirst.
He took his dues and left with a smile.
A king wanted the perfect groom for his daughter. So he travelled to the
abode of the gods to find out who the most perfect man ever created was.
When he returned with the information, the world had changed dramatically:
a hundred years had passed, his daughter and his entire family had died and
no one remembered him. He then learned that time flows faster in the realm
of the gods and a day there equals a hundred years on earth.
In another story, the gods asked a hermit to fetch them a pot of water. As
the hermit dipped the pot in the water, he saw a beautiful girl. He fell in
love with her and asked her to marry him. She agreed immediately and so the
hermit became a householder and had children by the woman, and the children
had children of their own. In his old age, there was suddenly a great
flood. The river broke its banks and washed everything away: his home, his
children, his grandchildren, even his wife. He was left ashore alone,
without anything, when suddenly he heard the gods shout, “Please pull out
the pot and give us the water!” The hermit realised he had been dreaming
all along.
In the first story, what seems like a day turns out to be a lifetime while
in the second story, what seems like a lifetime turns out to be a second.
In the former, time contracts. In the latter, time expands. This is a
common theme in Hindu mythology. What makes time change qualitatively is
attention. When you are concentrating, time contracts. When you are not
concentrating, time expands.
Nikhilesh loves working with Mark. Mark has the ability to turn every
project into a game with so much fun that everyone comes early to work,
leaves late and no one feels tired. Time passes quickly and weekends feel
boring and terrible. Nikhilesh does not speak of work-life balance; work is
life and life is work. His wife enjoys seeing Nikhilesh this way, as he
brings the energy and joy of work back home, to everybody’s delight.
But Nikhilesh had a very different experience when he worked with Dinakar.
Dinakar was no fun. Every meeting was a drag. Everybody had to fill in long
reports and long forms. Everything was read and discussed, but no one
really paid attention. Every minute of the meeting was documented and filed
and circulated. It was torture to go to work and a joy to return home. But
the boredom and irritable mood at office travelled home and Nikhilesh would
often snap at his wife.
Mark managed to contract time by making everything a joyful activity.
Dinakar expanded time by making everything a boring chore. Time passes fast
when we are having a good time. Time moves slowly when we are not.
The best way to see figure out organisational culture is to see how people
behave during lunchtime. If they are eagerly waiting for the break, it
means time is passing slowly at their workstations. If they forget the
lunch break, then they clearly are doing something at the workstation that
they’re enjoying a lot. Time is constantly contracting and expanding at the
workplace.
Brahma creates the world but his worship is not encouraged. Shiva beheads
him. His crime? He chases his daughter with a lustful gaze. This is one of
the most awkward stories of Hindu mythology; awkward until one realises the
metaphorical nature of mythic vocabulary.
To understand this discomforting puzzle we have ask ourselves a difficult
philosophical question: do we create the world or does the world create us?
Does an entrepreneur create his enterprise or does the enterprise create
the entrepreneur? Is the business the ‘mother’ or ‘daughter’ of the
businessman? Does our job nourish us, or is the job there for our pleasure?
In the scriptures, creation is the Goddess. And the relationship between
creator and creation is an ambiguous one: is the Goddess the mother or the
daughter? He is the potter; she is the pot. Without the pot, can he be a
potter? And without him, can she be a pot? The Goddess is the enterprise of
the entrepreneur, the business of the businessman, the job of the salaried
man. What is our relationship with our creation? Are we nourished by it or
do we exploit it for our satisfaction? When we do the latter, Brahma needs
to be beheaded as he stops growing.
When we are nourished by our jobs, we grow. When we exploit our job for our
pleasure, we do not grow. Mothers challenge us and help us discover our
potential; daughters do not challenge us, and are to be given away to help
others discover their potential.
Yashwanth always wanted to set up his own business, despite family
protests. They wanted him to take up a regular salaried job but Yashwanth
wanted to be an entrepreneur. He worked hard and after two failures,
managed to set up a luxury car hire service. As the company became
successful, he was recognized and loved by his peers and finally
appreciated by his family. Needless to say his financial situation improved
dramatically.
Now Yashwanth is at a crossroad. What is his relationship to his business?
Until that moment, the business enabled him to grow. Now, he can sit back
and relax and enjoy the fruits of his labour. Should he see his business as
the nourishing mother or the pleasure-providing daughter? That is when his
professor told him, “If you simply sit back and relax you intellectually
stagnate. There will be no growth in outlook. Business is not just about
making money. It is about validating your existence, fulfilling your
potential.”
So Yashwanth decided to grow. He had to behead the Brahma within him who
was ‘chasing the daughter’ and getting attached to the enterprise. He could
only do this by becoming Shiva, the hermit. Like a hermit he had to detach
himself from his old business, only then would he be able to grow into a
new role.
The sage Narada wanted to marry a young princess. But she said she wanted
to marry only Hari. Hari is the name of Vishnu , who is God and the
guardian of earth. Narada went to Vishnu and began singing his praises. So
Vishnu offered him a boon.
“Give me the face of Hari,” said Narada. Vishnu granted that wish. Narada
went to the princess but instead of garlanding him, she turned around in
disgust. There behind her stood Vishnu. The overjoyed princess garlanded
Vishnu. Narada wondered what was wrong. Then he saw his face reflected on a
mirror.
It was that of a monkey! He accused Vishnu of cheating him. Vishnu smiled
and replied, “I gave you the face of Hari, which literally means monkey,
though it happens to be my name.”
Narad can be read the situation in two ways: a strategic narrative or a
sincere narrative. In a strategic narrative, Narad can see Vishnu behaving
like a lawyer, playing with words to make him feel like a fool. In a
sincere narrative, Narada can see Vishnu behave like God, using a play of
words to enlighten him not to trick a young girl simply because he can.
In a strategic narrative, Vishnu is the wily trickster who wants the
princess for himself. In a sincere narrative, Vishnu stops Narada from
being a trickster and grants the princess her wish. In a strategic
narrative, Narada feels like a fool. In a sincere narrative, Narada is
enlightened.
Every situation can be read strategically or sincerely. When we read a
situation strategically, we feel manipulated; we feel we have been reduced
to a performing monkey. When we read a situation sincerely , we learn from
it; we feel someone cares for us enough to demonstrate to us our
shortcomings rather than simply pointing it out.
After completing his course in Australia, Jason returned to India with
plans to start a fast food joint. His father, Paul, was a renowned
restaurateur, with many small boutique hotels in East and South India , saw
the business plan and knew that it would not work. But he gave his son the
seeding capital he needed.
The hotel started with much fanfare but was in the red in less than six
months. That is why Paul sent his team to help out the son. They made two
key changes, in the menu and in the advertising. The same place, which was
empty for six months, was now full of customers.
Now Jason has two options, just like Narada. Read his father’s actions
strategically or sincerely. He can see Paul as a manipulator, a dominant
father, who wanted to put him in his place. Or he can see Paul as a
teacher, a caring father, who wanted to show him what actually works in the
restaurant business. Jason can feel like Hari, the monkey, or thank Hari,
the teacher. The choice is very much his.

What is Swarga?” Yayati asked Indra. Indra replied, “It is a place where
you get everything without any effort. You stand under a tree called
Kalpataru and wish for what you want – and you will have it. You stand
before a cow called Kamadhenu and wish for what you want – and you will
have it. You hold a jewel called Chintamani and wish for what you want -
and you will have it.” Yayati realized that Swarga was a place with
infinite return despite zero investment.
Humans have always yearned for paradise. And to remind them of Swarga,
humans have venerated and adored certain plants that bear fruit all year
round with little or no effort. This is why the banana tree is auspicious.
The tree does not require much maintenance but it provides delicious
energy-rich fruit and leaves that can be used as plates. The same can be
said of the coconut, part of every household ritual.
We all seek paradise, or a place closest to it. High return on investment
is desirable. Or ideally high return with no investment. And that is what
we do at work: to get a high ROI either employers demand increase returns
or employees try to reduce investment. And it is often tough to measure
either.
Sandeep was unemployed for six months. During his interview that finally
landed him a job in a tuition class, he was determined to give his best
show, work hard and prove to the employers that he was worth the salary
they were paying him, even more. So in June of that year he started his job
in full earnestness: arriving on time, preparing for his lectures, giving
his full attention to the students, following up all home assignments with
enthusiasm.
But two months later in August, Sandeep’s enthusiasm had waned. The job had
become routine and boring. There was no excitement. He felt his returns for
the effort put in was too less. There was no chance of the salary being
increased, and so he decided to increase his return by decreasing his
investment. So yes, he did arrive on time and did do all his lectures, but
he reduced his enthusiasm and attention. He gave lip service to the task at
hand and refused to do more than what was expected of him in the job
description handed out at the time of appointment.

Our bodies are made up of mostly water. Just look at the facts:
The brain contains 74% water, blood contains 83% water, lean muscle has 75% and bone has 22% water.
Experts agree that water is one of the most powerful forms of treatment.
So how come most people don’t drink enough water?
10 Health Benefits of Water:
1. Water prevents kidney stones. The most common cause of kidney stones is not drinking enough water. Since water dissolves the substances that form stones in the urine, drinking 12 glasses daily helps treat kidney stones.
2. Water treats urinary tract infection. The more water you drink, the more you will urinate. “Drinking lots of water will help flush out harmful bacteria from your bladder,” says Medical City kidney specialist Dr. Roberto
3. Water helps patients with diarrhea by preventing dehydration. As a first-aid for diarrhea, you can make your own oral
rehydration solution at home. Mix a glass of water with 2 teaspoons sugar and ¼ teaspoon salt, and drink as much as you can tolerate. This is similar to the dextrose solution in the hospital.
4. Water helps reduce fever. For symptoms of flu, water can help lower your body temperature when you urinate the “heat” out of your body. If you’re sick, drink more water for you to recover faster.
5. Water helps treat cough and colds, sore throat, and respiratory infections. Water helps loosen sticky phlegm. A respected lung specialist told me that some mucolytics out there are just as beneficial as drinking lots of water.
6. Water reduces heartburn. Taking 2-3 gulps of water every 20 minutes or so can help flush the stomach acid away. Bananas and water are effective alternatives to taking antacids. Try it.
7. Water prevents constipation and its complications. Too little water can harden the stools and lead to hemorrhoids
and diverticulosis, a disease of the large bowel. Drink water and eat lots of vegetables to soften your stools.
8. Water keeps you alert and energetic. If you’re dehydrated, your blood is literally thicker. This makes it harder for the blood to circulate. As a result, the brain can become less active and you can feel confused and fatigued. Some studies also show that water may help cure migraine headaches.
9. Water helps reduce weight. By drinking a glass or two of water before a meal, you will lessen the amount of food you can take in order to feel full. Water has zero calories and will not make you fat.
10. Water keeps your skin soft and radiant. Just as a dehydrated person will have deep-set eyes and wrinkled skin, so will a fully hydrated person exhibit a normal and beautiful skin tone.
The Proper Way To Drink Water :
1. Drink water when you wake up. Your body loses water while you sleep, so drink a glass before you go to sleep, and another glass when you wake up. You are naturally thirsty or dehydrated in the morning. Drinking water in the morning helps flush out the toxins that have accumulated all night.
2. Drink 8 to 12 glasses a day. According to the Mayo Clinic, a 120-pound individual needs 8 cups of water a day, while a 190-pound person would require 12 cups daily. Dr. Robert says that we should monitor our urine color and keep it on the light side. However, drink only a maximum of 16 glasses a day, and not more.
3. Drink little by little throughout the day. It is preferable to sip water throughout the day rather than to drink two glasses all at once. This will lessen the stress on the heart (especially if you have heart disease) and give your body more time to absorb it.
4. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink water. By the time you feel thirsty, you’re probably already 2 glasses below your normal water needs. Elderly people are also less sensitive to the body’s need for water.
5. Drink water, not soft drinks, alcohol or coffee. Some experts believe that tea, sodas and coffee can be potentially dehydrating. Moreover, the high phosphorus and sugar content in cola drinks can lead to conditions like osteoporosis and diabetes. One study shows that adults who drank six cups of coffee daily experienced mild dehydration. Drinking alcohol is much worse because it actually dehydrates you by making you urinate a lot.
6. Train children to drink water. Set a good example to your kids and drink water together. Make sure that children drink enough water when they’re active. Pack a large bottled water in their lunch box.
7. Drink more when it’s hot. People living in hot climates like the Philippines need to drink more water. They are more prone to develop kidney stones compared to those living in cooler regions.
8. Drink more as you exercise. When you exercise, you need to drink more water to compensate for fluid loss. Go for an extra 500 ml of water for a 30-minute to 1-hour exercise. Eating a banana also helps keep your potassium up.
9. Drink more when you’re sick. Even though you don’t feel like it, you really need to drink more water to help your body recover from various infections. If you’re dehydrated, you’ll feel much worse.
10. Drink more if you’re pregnant. Women who are expecting or breast-feeding need additional fluids to stay hydrated. The Institute of Medicine recommends that pregnant women drink 10 cups of fluids daily and women who breast-feed take in about 13 cups of fluids a day.

Cancer treatment is about making money…provoking thoughts |
|
I posted this article, which may have some provoking thoughts:
The below is absolutely 100% true and as a doctor I have been telling people this for 15 years now. No one wants to listen. Folks need to wake up. Cancer treatment is about making money. It is a 120 billion dollar a year industry in the United States alone and estimated to be a 600 billion dollar a year industry worldwide. A successful cancer case according to the American Cancer Society and the American College of Oncology and Hematology means that the person survives for 5 years. Both the American Cancer Society and the American College of Oncology and Hematology admit that a person is likely to survive cancer for 7 to 10 years even if they do absolutely NOTHING. Of course, only the doctors get those magazines – not you, the cancer patient. Alternative medicine’s track record of curing cancer is 10 times higher than that of conventional medicine. Note that I say CURE. Remember another thing. A TUMOR is just a symptom. It is not the cause of cancer. Science is cause and effect. Remove the cause and the effect disappears. I am in my third battle with cancer right now. I have not done any chemotherapy or radiation or surgery for any of my bouts with cancer. I survived leukemia, I survived Non Hodgkins Lymphoma and now I have Glioblastoma which is supposedly an incurable form of brain cancer. I was given two months to live 5 months ago. I have been using Chinese herbs, high doses of vitamin C, acupuncture, chiropractic, homeopathy and nutritional changes. Yes, at first it got worse. It had metastasized to my lymph nodes, my lungs and my bones. As of this week, I am happy to say that there is no evidence now of any cancer in my lymph system or my bones. I had 6 tumors in my lungs, now there are only two. The tumors in my brain have shrunken tremendously. I never did any of their chemo, radiation or surgery. Here is a very interesting statistic that you can only have access to by being a doctor. Every year more than 1,000 doctors oncologists (cancer doctors) are diagnosed with cancer. Less than 10% of them choose to do the treatment that they have been giving to their patients. Sort of like the fact that less than 25% of all pediatricians vaccinate their own children because of the fact that the risk of sudden death or serious side effects from the vaccination is higher than the risk of catching the disease one is being vaccinated for. This is not bullshit people – it is truth. Medicine is about money, not about your health and the system traps people, especially the elderly, disabled and poor into a deadly treatment regime that puts them in an early grave. Meanwhile, all the jet set billionaires are flying off to Europe and paying big bucks for alternative treatments and getting cured. Does alternative medicine work all the time? No. Of course not. Nothing works all the time. But there is a reason for that. You don’t die until it’s your time to die. Nothing can make you live longer than that time. However quality of life comes into play. Those cancer patients who use alternative therapies for their cancer, yet still die from the illness, suffer a much higher quality of life. They die able to spend time with their families and even recognize their family members. They don’t become emaciated like those who do chemotherapy or radiation do and rarely is a person who goes under the treatment of chemotherapy able to recognize anyone for the last few days of their lives. Their bodies become ravaged to the point that you can’t even recognize them either. They suffer at a much much higher rate and they have one let down after another as doctors tell them, ahhh – it’s looking good, only to tell them on the next visit it’s looking worse, you need more chemo and radiation. What is criminal about this is that YOUR DOCTORS KNOW THIS SHIT. I took an oath as a physician. I have always followed it. That has certainly not made me successful financially as a doctor because I have consistently refused to go along with conventional medicine’s bullshit. Read the below carefully. It may indeed make a difference in your life. Rick Cantrell, PhD, MD, PsyD
AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY (‘TRY’, BEING THE KEY WORD) TO ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHNS HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY . Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well. Dioxin chemicals cause cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don’t freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic. Recently, Dr Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital , was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn’t bad but you don’t know what is in the paper. It’s just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper The dioxin problem is one of the reasons. Please share this with your whole email list……………………. Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead. This is an article that should be sent to anyone important in your life. |

In this sweet morning, I stand before you to speak few words about success. The
road to success is not smooth but full of thorns. Success is as cold as ice and as
lonely as the North Pole. There is no short cut to success. It is an old taxi that fortune favours the brave, the studious, and the steadfast. Those who favour in the midway meet their doom. Idle men are dead all their life long. Leonardo Da Vinci has rightly said, “Iron rusts from disuse, stagnant water loses its purity and in cold weather becomes frozen; even so does in action makes us rust as iron and frozen as ice. My dear friends, the road to success is not smooth. Failures face us at every step. Success can be achieved by those who do not mind failures, but struggle until the goal is reached. And when our energy fails us, we should remember the Rome was not built in a day. This will infuse fresh energy into us.
But we must not think that the success can be achieved with the help of Aladdin’s lamp. Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, and many other big names can be considered as being successful, rich, have a lot of achievements, have a good life, etc. Almost every person in the world wants to be successful. So, what is the key factor to be successful? The key factor is passion. We have to know our passion, what we like to do in our life. This passion will drive you to keep on working. So, we have to work because we love it not because of the money. If we enjoy and love our work, money will come by itself. Once we have the passion to do work, that passion is the fuel to make us work hard. As nothing comes easily without hard work. The most important thing is we feel happy when we do our “hard” work which will lead to success. Abraham Lincoln says, “Always bear in mind that your own resolution to success is more important than any other thing.” and even in the bible it is written ,”If the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the
ditch.” so to get success just trust yourself and keep on working to achieve success

The origins of the ancient healing science known as Ayurveda are lost in cosmic antiquity. According to the ancient text Charaka-samhita, this “Science of Life and Longevity” is eternal and is revealed in each universe in each of its infinite cycles of creation and destruction. This healing science is generally revealed by great sages or demigods. Occasionally, the Supreme Lord Himself descends as the avatara (incarnation) Dhanvantari and re-inaugurates the tradition of Ayurveda. This extremely rare appearance of God is recorded in the Vedic literature of ancient India.
Dhanvantari’s appearance is celebrated each year on the 13th day (trayodasi) of the waxing moon a few days before the Divali, corresponding to October 17 in this year of 1998. Follow these links to enjoy the story, and rare pictures, and even a recital of the stotra of the avatar of Dhanvantari.
The Birth of the Unborn
http://www.avatara.org/dhanvantari/dhanlila.html
The avatara of Dhanvantari appeared billions of years ago. Although an avatara is unborn, He takes His divine birth among the living beings to display His divine pastimes.
The First Appearrance of Dhanvantari
In this epoch (kalpa), He first appeared during the great churning of the cosmic milk ocean to deliver amrta (nectar) for the nourishment of the demigods. The churning of the milk ocean is one of the most famous episodes in Puranic history and is celebrated in major way every twelve years in the festival known as Kumbha Mela. The story is related in the Srimad Bhagavatam, a major work that describes the avataras in great detail. Here is what happened:
The great leader of the demigods Indra was riding on his elephant, when he came across Durvasa Muni. Seeing the great demigod, Durvasa offered him a special garland (mala). Indra accepted this garland and put it on the trunk of the elephant. The elephant threw the garland onto the floor, thus enraging Durvasa Muni. In a fit of anger, the sage explained that the garland was the dwelling of Sri (fortune) and was therefore to be treated as prasada. (1) Therefore cursed Indra and all the demigods to be bereft of all strength, energy, and fortune (Sri).
In the ensuing battles, the demigods were defeated in battle and the demons headed by Bali gained control of the universe. The demigods sought out the help of Lord Vishnu, who instructed them in the art of diplomacy. The demigods then entered into an alliance with the demons to jointly churn the ocean for the nectar of immortality and to share it among them. Of course, the demigods were told by Vishnu that He would arrange for them alone to obtain the nectar, which would empower them to defeat the demons.
All kinds of herbs were cast into the milk ocean and using Mandara mountain as the churning rod and Vasuki as the cord, they proceeded to churn the ocean. This churning was so arduous that Lord Vishnu Himself interceded in so many ways to aid the demigods: He was present as Lord Ajita pulling on the side of the gods, as Lord Kurma who supported the great Mandara mountain which was in danger of sinking, and Lord Vishnu Himself sat atop the Mountain infusing the demigods and the serpent Vasuki with energy. Many great beings and objects were produced from the ocean and were accepted by various demigods as offerings. Laksmi-devi, the goddess of fortune, appeared from the ocean and Vishnu and Her were reunited as husband and wife after having been separated for many ages.
Then as they continued churning, a very wonderful male person appeared. The Bhagavatam tells us, “He was strongly built; His arms were very long, stout and strong; His eyes were reddish, and His complexion was black. He was very young, He was garlanded with flowers, and His entire body was fully decorated with various ornaments.” (2)
Lord Dhanvantari was “dressed in yellow garments and wore brightly polished earrings made of pearl. The tips of His hair were anointed with oil and His chest was very broad. His body had all good features, and He was stout and strong as a lion. In His hand, He carried a jug of nectar.”
The demons stole the jug of nectar and Lord Vishnu appeared as Mohini, a beautiful woman, who fascinated the demons and recovered the nectar from them. The demigods took the nectar and drank it and were invigorated with energy. Thereafter, the demigods fought the demons and were victorious. They greatly rejoiced and worshipped Lord Vishnu and Lakshmi, the goddess of fortune, and resumed their position in the heavens.
Dhanvantari’s Second Appearance (3)
The second appearance occurred at the beginning of the reign of the current Manu in the second Dvapara-yuga, two billion years ago. Lord Vishnu foretold at the time of the churning that Dhanvantari would appear again in the human society and be offered sacrifices and worshipped by human beings. He would also teach them the science of Ayurveda. Dhanvantari at that time was residing in the heavens and Lord Indra seeing the misery of human beings afflicted by disease on earth, requested the Lord to teach Ayurveda to the human race.
At the same time, the King Dirghatamas of Kasi was performing penance, desiring a son. The king desired to propitiate Lord Dhanvantari for the sake of a son. Thereupon, Dhanvantari appeared to him and urged the king to choose a boon as he pleased. The king said, “O Lord, if You are pleased with me, be my son, bestower of my goal.” The Lord replied, “So be it,” and He vanished.
Lord Dhanvantari was then born in the royal household of Kasi. He developed ascetic tendencies even as a young boy and performed severe austerities. Lord Brahmawith great difficulty persuaded Him to accept lordship over the city of Kasi and since then He bacame known as Kasi-raja. As a king He prepared the samhitas on Ayurveda in eight divisions for the benefit of humanity.
Lord Dhanvantari’s teachings are recorded in the Agni Purana 279-289 as well as through the teachings of His disciple Susrutha.
The Bhagavatam states “smrta-matrarti-nasanah” One who remembers the name of Dhanvantari can be released from all disease.
A final note:
Those who are new to Vaishnava and Puranic thought may wonder at the purpose of the Lord’s array of avatars especially during the churning of the milk ocean. After all if God is all powerful, why couldn’t He accomplish all His ends at once? Why does He have to act through so many different forms? In answer to this, the Vedic literature affirms the omnipotence of the Lord in His various avatars. However, when the Lord descends, He Lord seamlessly fuses His serious purpose (in protecting the demigods and humanity) with sheer sport. In the form of Mohini, He enchants the demons and the demigods. As Lord Dhanvantari, He diminishes the misery of the world by teaching the medical sciences. As Lord Ajita, He enjoys assisting His devotees directly in their struggle for victory. At times He even desires His devotees to be glorified, which is why Lord Shiva drank the poison produced of the ocean. The poison turned his neck dark-blue, hence the name Nila-kantha. In short, although the devotees never stop glorifying the Lord, no one can fully understand His divine play (lila).
(1) Visnu Purana 3.10.12
(2) Srimad Bhagavatam 8.8.32
(3) The story of the second appearance is told with details in the Brahmanda-purana (2.3.67.10-24) and Bhava-prakasa (purva-khanda, 1) a minor Ayurvedic text.
Iconography of Lord Dhanvantari
http://www.avatara.org/dhanvantari/dhanarca.html
(based on S.K.R. Rao’s Pratima kosha (1990)
According to the Visnu-dharmottara-purana (1.73.41) which is a major text on iconography, Dhanvantari is to be presented as suruupa (handsome), and priyada rsana (pleasant-looking) with two hands, each carrying amrta-kalasham (pots of nectar). According to the Ramayana, Dhanvantari held a water-pot (kamandal u) and a mendicant’s staff (danda) when He emerged from the ocean.
More frequently, the icons of Dhanvantari are four-armed, carrying a conch and discus in the upper arms, and a jalauaka (leech) and amrta-kalasha in the lower hands.
The Prapancha-sara-sangraha mentions several dhyana-slokas describing various forms for contemplation. He is dark-complexioned (kalambhodojivalaandgam) in yellow silken garments (kati-tala-vilasaccharu-pitambaradhyam) and four-armed (holding conch, discus, leech, and nectar pot). Another sloka describes Him as bathing Himself in with nectar flowing from two pots He holds over His head. This form is is to be visualized as seated on the devotee’s own head, or upon the lunar orb on a full-moon night. Yet another sloka describes Him as handsome (mano-haranga), with a tranquil face (prasanna-mukha-kamala), residing in the solar orb (ravi-bimbastha).

This illustration shows Lord Dhanvantari in His four-armed form holding the wheel (Sudarsana Chakra) and Conch (sankha) in the upper right and lefts hands as do most Vishnu incarnations. In the other two hands, there are the nectar pot (amrta-kalasha) and a herb. According to the Prapancha-sara sangraha, the Lord holds a leech (jalauaka) in place of the herb in His fourth hand.
“Within all of us is the archetype of the Divine healer. This Divine healer is the true healer in all beings, not any particular individual or special personality. To heal ourselves or others we must set it in motion within ourselves. Dhanvantari, an incarnation of the God Vishnu, …represents this truth in the tradition of Ayurveda. His statue is found at most Ayurvedic schools and clinics. It is a reminder that however much we know or skillfull we become, everything still depends on the grace of spiritual nature. Hence, this book is dedicated to the divine healer within you.” writes David Frawley in the dedication to his book, Ayurvedic Healing.

Udupi Sri Krishna as Dhanvantari
http://www.avatara.org/dhanvantari/dhanwantarir.html

This is an ancient Deity (arca-vigraha) of Lord Krishna currently located in Udupi, South India. Here Lord Krishna is dressed as Lord Dhanvantari and one can see the nectar pot (amrta-kalasha) in His hand. Particularly special is the moon in the background. The ancient text Prapancha-sara-sangraha descr ibes that one may meditate on Lord Dhanvantari situated on the lunar orb.
During Lord Krishna’s manifest pastimes five thousand years ago, His wife Queen Rukmini carved and worshipped this Krishna Deity in the kingdom of Dvaraka.
This was eventually lost and finally rescued by Sri Madhva Acharya in the 13th century. Today one can see this ancient Krishna Deity worshipped in Udupi in the southern state of Karnataka, India. The complete details of this fascinating story are given in Madhva Vijaya, the biography of Madhvacharya, and the story is summarized at the Dvaita site.
NOTE:
This is incorrect information. The Deity was carved from a Shaligram stone by Vishvakarma and then given to Rukmini who worshipped the Deity during her time in Dwarka See more on my Madhwa page and Shaigram page on Udupi.

This is an ancient Deity (arca-vigraha) of Lord Dhanvantari that has been worshipped for 750 years in Udupi, South India. One can see the nectar pot (a mrta-kalasha) in the left hand of Dhanvantari. His Holiness Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji from Udupi is currently on tour in the United States and worships this Deity of Lord Dhanvantari every day according to ancient Vedic rites. For info on his tour, see Dvaita Website.
Special thanks to the Swamiji from Udupi who was kind enough to give me the darshana and permission for photography of this Deity.

This picture of the Deity of Lord Dhanvantari is a one off, they don’t allow pictures of Him at this temple in South India. It was given to me as a gift a few years ago, I believe the Deity is either in Melkote or Sri Rangam.

“Om Suklam Baradaram Vishnum Sasivarnam Chaturbhujam
Prasannavadanam Dyaye Sarva Vignopa Santaye”
According to Hindu mythology, any person who starts any work in any day will recite the above mantra. The above mantra is to please Lord Vigneswara to bestow His blessing on him in the work to be completed without any obstacles. Without performing puja by reciting the above mantra to the Lord, no one starts any venture and to that effect any work.
Mantras are more powerful tools to the common persons in this Yuga to fulfill their desires and ward of negative effects. Historically, power of mantras have been tested time and again. Mantras are nothing but a combination of combination of words. If mantras uttered rhythmically and repeatedly, the mantras create a vibration that lead to an ultimate well being of a person. The whole existence of the world is nothing but a vibration of energy. Where there is a vibration, there is bound to be sound. The whole existence is nothing but sound. Mantras also contain sound and it becomes the source of enormous vibrations and infinite power. Mantras also contain sound, the sound of God. Mantras were revealed to our sages for the benefit of the mankind by God himself.
Almost all Vedic Mantras start with the basic mantra ‘OM’ that is the expressive sound symbol of God. These mantras are very powerful and when uttered repeatedly with utmost faith, devotion and dedication, they become the source of the infinite power.
According to Gita, there are three ways to realize God viz., Jnana Yoga, Karma Yoga and Bhakti Yoga. In the present Kali Yuga, Bhakti yoga has been stated to give immediate results.
If mantras are chanted mechanically, it is of no use except waste of time. Total devotion and surrender to the deity to whom the mantra is supposed to propriate is a must. Your faith in the Lord has to be total. Then only, you will be able to reach the goal and be benefited by the blessings of God.
Mantras are more powerful if uttered with utmost devotion, dedication and in totality. In fact, a common man, a manta is an occult formula to remove various worries and troubles. It is a tool to get one’s desire fulfilled through positive vibrations.

As the mind concentrates more and more on mantra and its meaning, it conditions the mind and takes up to the higher states and forms the path to salvation – the eternal bliss. Read on to know about the significance of mantra…
The Vedas are full of mantras, therefore have been kept for ages in their raw form to use in the different practices like patha, karma, jata, gana, patas. It has been done to ensure that the chanter clearly interprets the correct letters and sound for each letter (svara). People are advised to chant the mantras only when they know the correct pronunciation of it. That is how mantras are kept against deterioration with time.
Mantras Are Energy-Based Sounds
Sound is the foremost content of the creation. Mantras are divine sounds. Saying any word produces an actual physical vibration. Over time, if we know what the effect of that vibration is, then the word may come to have meaning associated with the effect of saying that vibration or word. Mantras appear really powerful when this sound effect reaches the mind and the surroundings.
Mantras Create Thought-Energy Waves
Mantra, when chanted sincerely produces a state where the organism vibrates at the rate completely in tune with the energy and spiritual state, represented by and contained within the mantra.
Mantra Have Fire-Like Energy
Mantras have fire like energy which can bring a positive and beneficial result, or it can produce an energy meltdown when misused or practiced without some guidance. There are certain mantra formulas which are so exact, so specific and so powerful that they must be learned and practiced under careful supervision by a qualified guru.
Mantras Eventually Quiet the Mind
At a deep level, subconscious mind is a collective consciousness of all the forms of primitive consciousnesses which exist throughout the physical and subtle bodies. Sincere use of mantra can excavate into subconscious crystallized thoughts stored in the organs and glands and transform these bodily parts into repositories of peace.
A mantra is a powerful word or phrase that may or may not have meaning in the same way as a sentence. Mantras can only be experienced, there is no proper term to define them and phrase them. That is why; they get passed from generation to generation.
